42 years old now ( 41 at surgery) bicuspid valve replaced with an Edwards Magna Tissue. Operation was over 100K for me. I was scoped for coronary artery disease and came out clean. I am in probably the best shape of my life now and, like many others on this site, can outrun, swim etc most of the "healthy" folks in my age group that have never had major surgery.

Careful on putting off surgery. Unfortunately, there are few alternatives after your valve starts to deteriorate. Good news is you can live a normal life after surgery regardless of valve choice.

My 'gut' feeling is that all Bicuspid Valvers need to have them replaced, sooner or later.

The significance of a "leaking" bicuspid aortic valve depends on the amount / degree of the leak. Without knowing how badly yours is leaking, it is impossible to make a significant comment.

"ENLARGEMENT" is cause for concern. If you have surgery 'soon enough', it may recede back to normal size. If not, you could have PERMANENT IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE to your heart muscle. This alone suggests that having surgery ASAP is the wise choice.

Have you had any luck on the insurance / payment issue?

When you found out 12 years ago , was the valve leaking, and was the heart enlarged, if not , at what point did it start leaking and did the heart enlarge in your case at any point. Also if you can share with me , what indications are the doctors going by that you need it replaced at this time.

The reason i'm asking is because i had a cath done on june 1, and the cath came out good, the doctor says the valve is leaking and that i should have surgery this or next month.

I will appreciate an advice thx

Just joined the site, I have bicuspid valve as well. I found out about 12 years ago, I still haven't had the surgery, when they originally found it I was told I would need the valve replaced within 2 years. I am now at the point it has to be done, got an extra 10 years out of it and I'm still going. I agree with the others that said get a second opinion and verify it is really necessary at this time.
