Thinking of you

Thinking of you

Sherrylynn,

I am new to this site for the past week. I am gratefull for this site too. I have been following this thread since I joined and noticed you haven't posted today. You probably need breaks from thoughts about this so having time inbetween posts is natural. However, with me being such a "Newbee" I naturally am more concerned to not see a post. So I just wanted to take a moment to tell you that I am rooting for you and include you in my prayers. I know only too well about having a communication problem with a cardiologist and what that can cost us toward health issues. My prayers are for you to have the medical insurance that you need to manage cardiac care and for you to get clear definative answers about your medical tests. I also wish for you a better cardiologist that will give you the respect that they originally commited to under the Hippocratic Oath but mostly I wish you swift resolve toward the medical solutions that will result in good health. I hope you are OK and that you will update us when you are able.

Blessings,
Lisa

Hello to all

Hello to all

Boy you miss a lot when you have to be offline awhile (internet problems). I have been rereading all the posts. Thank you all for your uplifting thoughts and excellent advice. I have been going over all my options and I am conferring with our new insurance carrier (Aetna) on whether or not they will cover my going to an out of state hospital. In the mean time the surgeon who did the first AVR has told me he does not know why the valve is leaking and wants to replace it with a mechanical valve after I finish wearing the event monitor I have had on for almost 3 weeks now. He and I had a very long discussion about my concerns as to what to do, and who should do it. At this point, until I hear from Aetna, I continue to watch myself carefully.

I hope you are all well.

I hope everyhing is going better now that things are progressing now. We a ll know how frustrating it is to get the doctors to listen when we are having problems. Good luck and be sure to let is know the surgery date. Keep hanging in there.

Hi Sherrylynn,
I got the same type valve in Nov 2000 and it had almost no leakage until my last checkup. My cardio said that it had a very small amount of leakage. I was wondering what type of insurance you have. You might want to get a second opinion. You might want to consider Cleveland Clinic I think you can do it over the internet without even having to go their.

Hi Fred,

I am now insured through my husbands insurance Aetna. I know you are right about the second opinion. My main concerns are the symptoms I had before OHS are back, sob, chest pain, light headed and fatigue. I was doing very well until early May after an episode of pneumonia that put me in the hospital. While I understand mechanical valves do leak a small amount, tissue valves are not supposed to. I have had mine 1 year on January 21, it began to leak somewhere between 60 days after it was put in.

Thank you for your post and support.

Prayers Please

Prayers Please

Hello to all. Just wanted to let everyone know I am scheduled for surgery Monday the 14th. I will be heading out to pre-op shortly. Not sure at this point how much they are going to have to do. I know the valve is being replaced, this time I am going mechanical. Can anyone fill me in on re-do surgery. Rachel I know you have been through this, any words of wisdom, and what are the differences?

Well gotta run, see you all later!

Put you on the calendar. Best wishes for a very successful surgery! Is there anyone that can post for you to let us know how the surgery went?

Sherry,

I had a repeat OHS 2 years after my first. It was not another replacement but still OHS.

Basically the second time is easier because you know what to expect.
Basically the second time is harder because you know what to expect.

I am not trying to be "cute", just honest.

It can be a little trickier for the surgeon because we tend to build up scar tissue after OHS. Therefore, clearing the "path" to access the heart can take a bit of time so your family should be prepared that you may be in surgery a little longer the second time.

Other than that, you will probably find it will go pretty much the same as the first one. Recovery was the same, the pain was the same, etc.

I wish you well and look forward to your updates.
