I had a Shiley mechanical installed 25 years ago today at age 29. My advice is get one that works better than what you have, and that you think you will be comfortable with. Brian
I was 52 and chose mechanical. Mainly because my father-in-law had to have his porcine tissue valve (mitral) replaced @ 10 years, chose another tissue (plus had AVR too). Secondly, because my grandmothers had lived to 96 and 99.5 years of age.
Thank so much guys for responding to this thread. It gives everyone around your age with the same AVR, mitral, etc....someone to look for and chat with.
