Hello!
I’m 8 1/2 weeks post op. Things have been well with my heart and all but I’m having some issues I thought I’d see if anyone else has experienced. I’m on my 4th BP med and finally my systolic no has come down but I continue to have high diastolic. Never had that before. I talked to my surgical team and there really wasn’t an answer. My cardiologist is trying to bring it down with meds but it continues to sit around 95 (it has come down bc it was over 100 before). I also get visual auras after exertion. Typically after some exercise. My cardiologist told me
To see an ophthalmologist and I’m waiting for my appointment. Just thought I’d check and see if there are similar experiences

Hi - I've not had high blood pressure issues but I've had visual auras since the day after AVR. You'll find there are several of us on forum who developed visual auras post AVR - no idea of the cause except possibly something to do with the heart lung machine.

thank you for your response! I also started having them the day after and now it’s after exertion. It might just be something I need to get used to.

hey @preciosa1974

firstly I read a while back an association exists between migraine Aura and OHS for valve surgery.

This is a topic over the years some threads of use:

lastly I've noticed that the combination of a good osteopath chiro and aspirin has ceased mine.

lastly this search criteria will perhaps also help you in searching this site using google (with the site rection clause)

Hi, I am one of many who now get exercise induced Migraine. I used to suffer from migraine however, main trigger was stress. After my bentall procedure I started regular migraines after any form of exercise with a raised heart rate. I am convinced my migraines are related to vascular issues.

2nd OHS September 1922 a complete redo done at Baylor Houston TX (aortic valve replacement w/ascending aortic aneurysm repair - 1st surgery Wichita KS April 2021). The following 3-6 months my visual migraines increased, some times 3 or 4 in a day, no pain but it was disturbing the frequency. Now at normal occasional.
Another peculiar issue experience was that for several days after after each surgery I would see small blood red spots similar to a heavy mist in the air and on the walls … anyone else? I came to wonder if it was a psychological memory of the surgery room experience, anesthesia/pain meds and no I never mentioned to the med staff.

I had that, the small red spots moving on the walls and on my skin - it was one of the side effects of the tramadol I was given - once I stopped the tramadol all side effects from it went.

I've never had pain with the migraine auras. They were quite frequent the first several years after surgery, now at nine years post AVR not so often, though I do get episodes of double vision.

Did you do an echo to check your Ejection fraction . Also May be rule out heart failure . I have been told heart might take few year for remodelling .

I'm six weeks post-surgery, and I've been dealing with visual auras and a higher heart rate.

It’s the ability of your heart to pump blood.it should be above 50%.
A echo would have been done when you left hospital. Check that report it would say on that . More over it’s only 8 weeks since post ops. It takes some time to settle. Are you doing your daily walks
