We discovered yesterday that my mother hasA ventral incisional hernia that runs fromthe bottom of her sternumto just below her pelvic bone. This problem is probably the result of two things. The C-section she had with my baby brother, and then when I had my stroke and collapsed after my last surgery, she caught me when I collapsed in my room. Her catching meprobably caused the weakness in her abdominal muscles to become A rupture which spread and ripped her abdominal muscles away from the cartilage that they should be attacauses her to become sweaty and nauseated.hed to. Now her intestines are only covered by her body fat layer and her skin. She has been miserable and bloated for months. The doctor says she is so bloated because of her intestines being just under her skin.Anything that touches her belly caues her to be nauseated and sweaty:eek: Need help from anyone who has had to have h uge hernia repaired.

please help!! Lettitia

I am sorry for your mom's discomfort.
Has the problem just started? or has she been this way for awhile?

Has she seen a plastic surgeon? I had 4 c-sections.. and 1 was an emergency..

my abdominal rectus muscels are separated by about3 inches.. only the tiny layer of facious (sp) covers those 3 inches. I can't lift much, or do sit ups or anything that uses my stomach muscles. (grateful I am thin)but it gives me terrible posture, and back aches.

Anyway.. I was told that it is a matter of reconnecting the stomach muscles and stitching them back together to form a tight wall again.

There are many ways to do the proceedure, and ithas been years since I saw someone about it. Decided i can't bear another surgery.

I would consult both a general surgeon and a plastic surgeon to get both opinions and viewpoints.
I hope your mom can get comfort from this problems soon.

Mom has been having"stomach" problems for about 2 years but she began looking like she had swallowed A beach ball just after we returned from Houston in September of 2003.That is when and where I had my stroke. Now she can hardly walk and breath at the same time. I will have her check intohaving Aplastic surgeon do A repair. You described what her doc says she needs to have done.

Thanks for the info.

Lettitia
