ACK!!! NOT THE EVIL PURPLE DINOSAUR!!!!

We hate Barney and all he stands for.....

...Mainly because the show rewrites popular children's songs and is generally a pretty slow and "dumbed down" show for impressionable kids.

Better they put a puzzle together or draw for a while before Seasame Street comes on...

Don't panic!! It wasn't Barney!! (..at least I don't think so..)

Kathy -
OUCH!!!!!!   My god - a root canal would seem relaxing after THAT experience!! Oh - and I'll be sure to take my "happy fat pants" with me for afterwards :D

Lance -
Thanks for sharing your experience. Things like that should just never happen. I don't know if I'd be able to have a cath through my right arm anyway because it's a bit dodgy from the shunt I had done as a kid, but I still like to be as informed as I can about things.

Bill -
I can see I'm going to have to start an Australian-American dictionary :D I certainly confused my friends in the States when I asked where the "rubbish bin" was...... and don't even get me started on the "boot" of a car, and the difference between petrol and gas..!! Meanwhile, I never ended up getting the flu shot - my doctor wanted to get a definite answer about the PH first (..ohhhhh - I'm SOOOOO disappointed..(..chortle chortle..)..).

Again - thank you all for imparting your advice and experiences. Where else could I possibly find such a wealth of information??

Cheers

Marge, I think what Georgia is refering to is the sedation they gave her. I too, remember nothing about my cath in Feb. I was sedated heavily but not totally asleep. It wore off very quick. They just sedate you with enough to get you through the procedure.

Oh, Marge - I was out for the count. For the whole day. My anxiety level was so high they put me on ativan the day before because they wondered if some of my symptoms might be related to anxiety (yeah, right. ). And ativan makes me nuts (had a lot when I had chemo - made me want to go to chinese restaurants after each treatment - such a bad idea - didn't eat chinese for years afterward). This wasn't the effect of an amnesiac - this was out.

Med,

The name of the plug is called an "Angioseal" made by St. Jude. They used that on me when I had my cath March 3rd and I was able to sit up and eat lunch after 2hrs of lying still. They pre-medicated me with Benadryl since I had a reaction to the dye back when I was 18, but this dye was definitely more tolerable than what they used back in 1979. I also got a mixture of Versed and Fentanyl and besides some discomfort when they numbed my groin my cath was painless. My only complaint was that they had the screens blocked by a piece of equipment so I couldn't watch the show.
