Heart cath and TEE tomorrow morning

I hope that after this I can get a date for my mitral valve repair or replacment. The waiting is getting to me. Anyway I guess no food or drink for me after midnight.

Hope it all goes well for you. I had an angiogram Monday and it was fine - only a few minutes pressure on the leg and then just lying still for four hours.

Good luck!! These can be somewhat uncomfortable procedures, but most breeze right through them. I didn't have the guts to watch as they did the cath, but many here have really been fascinated by it.

Hi Bob i have my angiogram on wed 4 march at 9.00am the admission i intsructions i have been given are to only have alight breakfast and the example they give is one piece of toast and a cup of tea at appox 7.00am.
i notice there is a long period of lying still did anyone take anything eg mp3 player book for this loooong period of doing nothing or is it complete stillness !
i have also been advised to take dressing gown and appropriate footwear is there anything else you took or wished you`d took

Most of us find we got anxious about these tests for naught. They really are painless and easy for the vast majority of us. If you feel any discomfort, ask for more happy juice. You'll find you probably will have sketchy memory at best about the whole deal.

Ask you cardio if he uses the 'plug' to close from the angio. It saves 'laying flat' time.

Let us know how it goes for you. Sure it'll be fine.

deano: the test was painless, but tell them to warn you before they inject whatever
it is they inject, you'll feel a very warm sensation spreading through your body.
had the doc not told me beforehand, i'd have been concerned.

afterwards, i had pressure bandages, no sand bags. don't recall how long i spent
before could return to my room, just slept.

Justin takes his IPod for after the caths. He never takes anything else, just wears gymn shorts or sweats there and home so he's comfy. I don't know about all places but he had a room with a tv after his cath too which helped.

I also had a tv and they were eager for me to eat. They kept offering all sorts of things to tempt me as I really didn't care about eating but finally when they offered some cut up fresh fruit/melons, I enjoyed a bit of that.

I am so grateful how fortunate I've been to have wonderful doctors/nurses/staff.

I just spotted your location - you don't have Dr Prasad as your consultant cardiologist do you? If you do then you are one lucky person, he probably saved my life.

If it is anything like when I had mine in St George's then you can certainly use your book and ipod I should think provided it doesn't involve moving your trunk. They will probably feed you sandwiches and make you drink lots while you are flat on your back, you have the advantage over us women in that you won't need to use a bedpan to pee. Before we were allowed free we had to walk up and down for a period of times,something like about twenty or so laps of the corridor to make sure the bleeding didn't start up. Then you were not to be home alone for twenty-four hours, you either have to be with family/friends or for me they stuck me in a rehab hospital for the night.

My first cath was when I was in 4th grade and I was hospitalized for a week. Believe it or not, it's actually kind of a fond memory because on the way home from the hospital my parents bought me a Beatles album for being a good little trooper and I was so excited.

I didn't have another cath for over 20 years and couldn't believe how much easier it was and that I got to go home the same day. Yeah, it's slightly uncomfortable having to stay still for a few hours but not bad.

Thanks sue .my cardiologist is Dr Ong at my local hospital. They are doing all the tests then the surgery will be done at Papworth hospital in Cambridge i will be referred once the angiogram is completed. i beleive i will be referred to frank Wells for a consult i am hoping he will do my surgery as he has an excellent record on mitral valve repair but not sure how it works on NHS
