I saw my Cardiologist today in Ft. Collins to have him fill out some more paper work for FPPA, (Fire,Police Pension Association) so I can see their panel of 3 Cardiologists to see what they are going to recommend for me.

I told the Cardiologist that I was still having problems when I sneeze. It hurts like H*** and I can feel something move. They sent me for a chest Xray and than sent me up to see the Surgeon. After poking around he thinks that I have a hernia in one of the chest tube sites. He wants to do surgery to see what and where it is so he can take care of it. Just when I thought I was doing pretty good.

Sorry to hear that, Dave. The healing of the wounds is what concerns me most at this point - how do they get healed while we walk, cough, sneeze, etc? And you are 7 months out.

I'm sure you will keep us posted. You have to see a panel to see a Doctor? I hope the coverage is good. Maybe you can conjur up a sneeze while there:( A good scream should get their attention!

See if they can do this one laparoscopically. I had my Inguinal done that way the last time and it beats the heck out of conventional type surgery. I won't say I wasn't ouchy, but far less and far shorter then the full blown deal.

Told you not to be moving all that furniture didn't I? ;)

hi dave!
i'm so sorry you are going through this!!!
ross is right, if they can do this laparoscopically the recovery may be easier.
please let us know how you are doing and what the docs decide to do.
wishing you all the best, sylvia

Darn it, Dave! I hope that this will be taken care of easily and in short order.

Karlynn

Paul,
Sorry you had to have a charriot ride to the hospital. PVC's are Premature Ventricular Contractions. Most of the time they are thought to be harmless - just annoying. Were you having other symptoms like chest pain, or shortness of breath? I hope you get a good report.

Karlynn

Hey Paul,
Sorry to hear you are having problems. I hope they get things worked out for you.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Dave-

Did the surgeon give you any idea of how easy or difficult the surgery would be? Is it near the diaphragm? Does it need a patch? It's a shame to have to face another surgery, but maybe it would be relatively easy to do. Did he say how long the healing would be?

What a disappointment after waiting so long to get things started again.

And Paul, I'm sorry to hear of your unplanned trip. Please keep us updated about how things turn out..

Hey--I thought this was the Samll Talk forum. These things are anything but Small Talk.

God Bless you both.

Dave! I am so sorry to hear it.

Look on the brightside...it's going to be a cakewalk compared to heart surgery.

Hang in there. You will be in our thoughts and prayers my friend.:)

Take care.

Dave - not good news, just another bump in that road to recovery. Now you hafta recover all over again. But you need it done so don't put it off. Do all your recuperating jobs together if you can......Prayers.

Paul - you hit a bump in the road, too. Hope you had no other symptoms. At least you are already in doctor's care. Just take it easy, hear?

Dave

Dave

Sorry to hear about the setback, but at least you know what is causing the pain when you sneeze.

Keep us posted on your status and just think, after going through OHS, any other surgery (well almost) will seem like a piece of cake. At least that worked for me!

Try to think positive............... :)

Oh. no

Oh. no

Dave - that's the pits. I can't believe you have to mess around more.

Paul - ugh. I hope you get to STAY home now.

Both of you: are you doing this just for attention? :D :D :D After I had surgery I didn't want any more attention for as long as I live.

Both of you guys take care of yourselves. You're very precious to us.

Dave,

I'm so sorry you have to face surgery again. Do you know yet when or where? Does this mean everything else for you (workwise) is on a standstill or you have to start over again? I sure hope not.

The good news is that maybe this will be what you need to help you feel truly well again.

Please keep us posted. Tom sends his best wishes to you and says he hates to hear you are having problems.

Thanks Everyone, as soon as I have more info I will let you know. I did ask if this was warranty work! They didn't even laugh.:p

Betty, this will not hold anything up. My Cardiologist sent his information to FPPA and I will wait and see what happens next.

Nancy, he did say they would probably put a patch over the area.
This was my surgeons partner and he said that he would let Dr. Stanton decide what needs to be done.
Take Care

My inners are all mesh screening. I'm a convertible tent, but no one knows it yet.

That's got to be handy for keeping the mosquitoes out.

:D

Dave, What a bummer!! Hope all goes well. Don't think hernia surgery is as bad as what you have been through but still, yech!!! Just hang in there and let us know whast happens. Paul, you need to do O.K. too!! Don't let those PVCs get you down!
Heather

No Hernia!

No Hernia!

Well I saw the surgeon yesterday and after some tests he tells me I do not have a hernia:) but I have a piece of cartilage that is rubbing and causing the pain when I sneeze.
He said if I can put up the pain for another 2 months he thinks that the cartilage will smooth itself out where it will not rub and I should be OK:confused: and if I can't put up with the pain he can go in and trim it off. I guess I will try and put up with the pain for awhile.

Hey and guess what. I go up to the desk to check out and the lady tells me there is no charge today! Sounded good to me.

....and the FBI didn't come pick you up for failure to pay? :D

I love when that happens. The only problem is, it's only happened 2 times for me. Well actually only one. Seems I'm getting the bill in the mail now for something that was already cleared and taken care of back in November of 2002!

Well now that's good news, Dave! I'm happy for you, as long as you're not in too much pain. I'm sure it's a relief.

No bill is good too.
