I know there has been a lot of talk about how much other people can hear their mechanical valves. Most people, if I recall, say that over time it gets quieter or they don't notice it anymore. But is anyone in the same boat as I am? My valve is getting LOUDER.
I've had the valve for 4 years, and I swear that each year it gets a little louder. Even my cardiologist commented on it at my last appointment.
It's getting to where people around me can hear it, even when it's not quiet. For example, when I was in WV visiting my friend, we were in the car (so road and car noise), with the radio on, and talking. Suddenly she stops and says "What is that ticking? Is that your watch?" I had to say, "No, it's my heart." She didn't believe me at first. She made me hold my watch up to her hear before she was finally convinced that it was not the source of the ticking. She asked why she had never heard it before. Granted, she hadn't seen me in two years, but she HAS seen me since my valve surgery. My only answer is, it's getting louder...
And VERY annoying, I must say.
Is there anyone else in this boat? Or am I the only one? Why, do you suppose, is it getting louder?
