Dayton,

If I had my surgery 18 yrs ago, I most likely would have chosen a mechanical, if they didn't choose for me. The tissue valves and procedures have improved since that time though.

Sorry, I did sound a little blunt. But I did have a bad experience from AVR. . .

. . .I can't think of taking more risk of another surgery due to food? But that's your choice and I wish you the very best and hope your valve last your lifetime. :)
Interesting. That's not the understanding I came away with, from the context of her post.

Seems to me that us oldtimers mostly have mechanicals and the more recent valve recipients have tissue. Just like most things, valve type popularity changes with the times..

What's in vogue today, wouldn't have been in vogue 10 years ago when I got my mechanical. I had no choice, didn't even know there could have been a choice. VR.com was just a gleam in Hank's eye. Thankfully that 'gleam' was born and is now 10 years old. Thanks Hank..!!

I voted, though I'm not sure I should have, as I wasn't given a choice.I would research valve types and brands if I had it to do over again. One thing that does favor tissue, is any anticipated surgery is easier without ACT. On the other hand I'd take the ACT and Lovonox over another OHS...
