I don't think I have any more specific questions that haven't been answered by my cardio, my surgeon or someone on this great site. This afternoon I made my surgery date for September 12th, about three weeks from today. Dr. Raisi at Cedars will be replacing/remodeling my aortic root and ascending aorta. My bicuspid aortic valve looks good so far and he thinks there is a good chance I will be able to keep it...for now. I'll be doing all my pre-op stuff for the next couple weeks - physical, dopler echo, X-rays and banking blood.

I just wanted to thank all of you who, by providing me with information, inspiration and encouragement, have given me the courage to manage this process.

I'll keep you apprised...

Hey Eric,
I'm just ahead of you, scheduled for a PVR on Sept. 9. It will be here before we know it. We're gonna be just fine, man. I'll be looking for you on the post-op side of the mountain!

I put you on the calendar, Eric. We wish you the best of outcomes and an uneventful recovery. Looking forward to all good posts! :)

Eric,
You are in great hands with Dr. Raisi. I have no doubts about a successful outcome. I'll be thinking about you on the 12th. :)

George,

I know we'll both be out of there before we know it. Seems these procedures have become almost routine. The hardest part is setting the date - then everything just happens. Like you, I can't wait to get this over with and move on. Look forward to comparing experiences...

My 34 year old husbands day of AVR surgery will likely be Sept 12th or 13th as well. He is currently recovering from bacterial endocarditis. He is a very busy boy as well (motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles...you name it :D ). Counting down the days...

Natanni,

Where is your husband having his done? I know we'll both come out of it great...it's just a few tense weeks leading up to it then a week afterwards that will be the hardest.

September is certainly lining up to be a busy month for our members.

Eric - best of luck to you. I am sure you will be back to free diving before you know it.

George - hope all goes well and you are up and running very quickly.

Natanni - best wishes for your husband's surgery and for you to get through it. Be sure and take care of yourself as well as your hubby.

Nathan will be having his AVR done at the Mayo in Rochester, MN by Dr Tom Orzulak. Probably the mechanical valve...

Good Luck

Good Luck

Eric,

I know that you made a great choice with Dr R.

Fell confident if you do not already. Good Luck and we will be thinking of you

Eric and George hope all goes well on the big day.
The waiting in worse than the event.
Eric I trust you have made a plan "B" with the surgeon for if the valve can't be saved. He is not exactly in a position to ask you, your preferences on valve selection during the operation.

My "Plan B" is to go with a bovine valve if my doc makes the decision to replace it. I'll let you know how it goes...Hope you've been well.

Things have gone very well up until now 9 months post operation, the whole thing seams like a dream. :) I hope things are as smooth for yourself and George. I feel like I am back to normal before the whole endocarditis thing started in late 2003. December when I have the 12 month follow up with an Echo and CT scan will be the big test of if my heart function has returned to normal.
