Funny Story On My Way To My Heart Cath

Didn't know where to post this little bit of humor.A little background I'm 56 my wife's 54 and we been married 36 years.I've never been sick since we've been married except for the occasional cold or bad tooth.So when I got my diagnosis about two months ago my wife has been very supportive.She keeps telling me I'll be there for you honey and get you thru this.The night before the heart cath we decided to get a room and spend the night closer to the hospital about1.5 hours away.Her good friend Debbie decide to go with us to keep my wife company during the procedure.I tried to get my wife to get a king size bed but she chose two double beds.Anyways we get to the hospital at 6;30 the next morning and the nurse comes to get me.She tells my wife and Debbie that when they get me prepped they can come in to see me before they take me to the cath lab.About 40 minutes later My wife and Debbie walk in and I could tell something wasn't quite right.My wife's eyes were half close and she was stumbling around.Come to find out after they took me in to get prep for the heart cath my wife decided to take a xanax to calm her nerves but instead took an Ambien(sleeping pill).So after 20 minutes they come in to wheel me to the cath lab and my wife's passed out snoring in the lounge chair in the room.Debbie ended up taking care of both of us the first couple of hours.I'll be there for you honey.Yea Right!!!!!!We have a good laugh about it now.

It is beautifully funny! Luckily you had Debbie there.
Many years ago, I took a sleeping pill instead of a thyroid pill (work tension and pressure). Luckily I made it through the rush hour to work and started feeling the effect while parking the car in the garage...and by the time I was crossing the street, I was bumping into people left and right and it hit me then! I went straight to the health room instead of to my office to seek their advice and told them to call my office and tell them...nurse put me on sofa and I fell asleep instantly! My angels were watching over me, luckily, while I was on the road. My colleagues laughed with me when I went to the office.

That reminds me of a story when my husband and I were flying to Italy, and I had put his evening pills in a tiny pill box that I kept for him (and I also had a pill box for me for pills the next morning). In any case, I accidentally gave my hubby my pills!!!! He said later "It's a good thing you are no longer on HRT (harmone replacement therapy)!!!!

Jeff, cath went great about a week ago.No blockage and never felt a thing during the cath.That was a big relief,less time in surgery!!

Great story ! at least she did it during the heart cath, and has maybe learned from it - although, it might be easier on her if she slept through your actual surgery, too I always feel us patients have the easier time of it, we get to sleep and leave the poor loved ones to pace the floors on our behalves.

Also reminds me a little of me, I always say that if it says on the bottle "caution, may cause drowsiness" I will pass out cold asleep for 24 hours. I learned that when I took my very first antihistamine at the young age of about 20 years old, and promptly fell asleep on my desk- co-worker had to wake me up when it was time to go home!

Hey Rich,I'm having my surgery done at UofM.My surgery just got a whole lot more serious the last few days.What I though was a valve replacement and a patch now involves replacing the ascending aorta and my surgeon said if he has to go into the arch than they do the procedure where they cool you down to 64 degrees.He said he wouldn't know till he opens me up.I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he dosen't have to go there!!!!I still have no symptoms though.Truth is though I haven't did much of anything the last two to three months.

I think all those waiting rooms should have Xanax dispensing machines. 25 cents gets you peace of mind.
