Hey,

Today is freedom from the lab day (thats the plan anyway).

I get my Coagucheck XS today as well as the training. I am looking forward to being able to do this on my schedule and not the lab's. Even though the lab techs were very helpful I still had to wait for them.

I will keep you posted as I learn how to use the monitor and then manage my INR (with my Doctor's help of course).

Well done, up-to-date ...................

INR management.;)

Happy, productive sticking:D:D

How are you receiving your training?

It's good to learn other Ontarioans are are taking advantage of this useful tool (monitor).

It looks like the word about POC is getting out there..finally:cool:

The pharmacy where I bought the monitor provided a 45 minute lesson that was very helpful. I got my first INR result at the same time ans simply called it in to my doctor.

GO WINGS GO Stanley Cup No. 5 in 12 years ( an average of about 2 a year - shall we say dynasty).

I've only had mine for 6 weeks but love it. I have followed up by going to the lab a couple of times (and emerg once - long story, don't take Coldfx (Canada) or Airborne) and the results matched perfectly! It took awhile to get get the blood from my finger onto the right spot on the strip - I went through THREE strips the first time, but now I have the knack.
Congratulations on your new purchase,
Dale

When I had my training session, I didn't put the lancet setting deep enough, so I wasn't getting a big drop of blood.
I was being a weenie.
Now I set it on a 3.5 depth and stab with glee. :)

Amen.

Just wait until you get to plunge a Lovenox shot in your belly. Oooo, it's so exciting. What a rush. :D

Pharmacists qualified to teach

Pharmacists qualified to teach

that's a BIG step forward and for the good. Is the pharmacy part of a "chain" e.g Shoppers?

This is a welcome improvement over the "dark ages"of 2004 when I began testing. Training required four day-long trips to Toronto and it's refreshing to learn of the progress taking place.

Happy sticking:D

I am in Ontario, and home test, too. There are pharmacists that are certified by Roche to fill the prescriptions that are required in Ontario to get a home-tester. They also do the training, in-pharmacy, when you pick up the machine. In my old town of 250,000 souls there was only one, and in my new town of 35,000, not one at all that I have found so far.

I have kept the entire box of strips and the lancets, so that when I need more, I can take them to the pharmacy and they will order the right thing. I once used a pharmacy that did not have the certification, ordered lancets, insisted they were for Coaguchek, and when I got there, they were for diabetes testing and did not fit my stick. Oh, well, lessons learned!

Been there, done that. A long time ago at 3 weeks post op my INR dropped to 1.9 and so my nurse daughter had the pleasure of stabbing me, and I never felt a thing.....Was I ripped off?

Also: To find out if you have a Coaguchek friendly pharmacy in your area,
just call Roche Diagnostics in Quebec and a rep will give you the locations.
