The surgeon who put him together again also takes the Armies traumas and fixes them too. He flies to Maryland twice a month to take care of our troops.

I expect my son to be a man and take care of this baby. Not turn and run like an irresponsible child. He knew it could happen and choose not to listen, so this is the end result. I'll respect whatever decision they make as the baby is not mine, but if it's coming into this world, they better be there for it.

Ross, You and Chris are ever in my prayers. I think when we go through OHS it opens our "hearts" to life, and to others somehow. You and Chris are often in my thoughts. Its hard to believe that those screws were all put in there on purpose and in a special order . It sure does look like they were just dropped in. I pray that his next surgery offers him some relief and possibly a bit of mobility.

Meanwhile I hope all works out for the best with this other little matter he has going. I reckon you will be a super granpa!

A man in a restaurant once told me that the only way to describe a grandparent's love for their grandchild is to compare God's love towards us. I thought that was a great analogy.

I've been sitting here thinking about the fact that I'll never be able to run after the kid nor do things that most grandparents get to do with their grand kids. It hurts.

My heart goes out to you. Concentrate on what you can do and not on what you can't. Children are amazing little things and very quickly work out what each adult in their life is best at. I'm sure you will be the king of reading bed time stories and story telling, and they love to play board games. They also just love having someone to watch them doing things even when you can't physically join in. Enjoy every moment you can with them they grow up all to fast.
My prayers are with you and Chris both during his operation and in the future.

I agree with the others. Somehow the little ones understand certain limits. I know mine picked up that I couldn't ride them piggyback after OHS (and I still don't do much of that). But reading time is very precious. I am sure you and the grandchild will bond very nicely.

My dad had a triple by-pass and other health problems when my kids were really small. As a result, he couldn't get really physical with them yet they adored him as he bonded with them in other ways. He passed away while they were still quite young, but they still remember him dearly. However you bond, it'll just feel that it's "normal" for you, and accept it without question. You'll be a fine grandpa!

Kids remember the little things. My parents have never been able to do physical things with my kids but they both read stories to them and spent many hours coloring and playing with playdough. Those are the things my now teenagers remember. My kids have a wonderful relationship with both them and my grandmother who died when the older ones were 2 and 4. They just sat in her lap or quietly played with her but they still remember "grandma fishy face" very fondly! I know it is a strange name but they remember her making "fish" faces to make them smile when they were sad, thus she will always be Grandma Fishy Face
