Friday, July 6, I am leaving for a trip to MA. For the first time in 20 years, I am going up there by myself. My husband and I used to drive to MA once, sometimes twice, a year. It feels strange , and sad, to go up on my own. Last year at this time, we were just coming back from up there. Who would have guessed that less than a year later, he would be gone. I really feel like just staying here , finishing cleaning the house, doing my bedroom, reading, doing nothing, ....
BUT, my mom is up there and she is going to be 89 in September , so I really need to go see her. I also have a lot of other family up there.I HATE to fly so I decided to take a train. I am leaving on AMTRAK this coming Friday. I wanted to leave Wedesday, the 4th. It was $100 cheaper to leave on Wednesday BUT I made my plans too late and could not find a kennel to keep my dogs. They were all booked.
I have always wanted to take a train trip , so here I come. I will bring plenty to read. My family think I am crazy not to fly up there.

Praline,

A train trip is not all that different from a road trip. It is a journey that gets you to a destination; a plane trip is just a transporter. A journey carries so much excitement and potential for meeting people and learning about yourself.

I am a road trip driver and would drive for 2 days to get somewhere that I could fly to in a few hours just for the experience.

I hope you have the best time and this is just the beginning of many new journeys.

I actually enjoy the train, more than flying. I think if you are not in a hurry it's the way to go. I great way to see the country. Better than driving as don't have to concentrate on the driving and can notice the scenary better. I found train stations, at least in Canada, far less conjested as airports, too.

Have a great trip!

Glad you are going to see your mother Praline and I hope this turns into the first of many wonderful adventures.

Enjoy the trip, Praline. I use to take the City of New Orleans from Chicago to Carbondale, IL every summer. When I disembarked at Carbondale, I wished I could stay on the train till it reached its final destination of New Orleans. My, how times have changed!
It's great that you're getting to go.:)

when I was first alone, getting out by myself was daunting, but I went anyhow and now I enjoy going. I am not at home now - on vacation in Sarasota and then so of Atlanta. Take it from me, go and enjoy everything there is to enjoy. You will be proud of yourself when you get home and you will know how much it meant for your mother to see you. Blessins.............

I like Trains

Dear Praline, I've never been on a train for more than a couple of hours, but always had fantasies of going cross country by train. Glad you're going to see your mum. I'm sure it will have some rewards for your traveling so far. I hope you have a wonderful trip. Remember I'm here if you need a shoulder, some support, or a hand. Your valve bro, Brian
