Resurrecting this old thread.
I could have sworn I was directed by one of my doctors while in the hospital (surgeon? cardiologist??) to NOT get a flu shot this year but I cannot remember for sure who said this or why (or if I am confused). Guess I will have to ask my PCP although I'm pretty sure he pushes them and would have no idea why the other docs might have said no...

Like others, I got a flu shot in the hospital before I came home from my surgery. Been getting them every year since, including this year's just two days ago. The only adverse effect I have suffered is a drop of blood on the band-aid, not even any soreness at the injection site.
Ask your PCP about a pneumonia shot while you are at it, unless you've already had that. Commonly recommended for heart patients.

You probably want to also make sure you're up on your Tdap booster.
