anyone know if deterioration of eyesight is related to heart
problems (stenosis/regurg) or possibly to medications (beta
blocker/ace-i)?

vision is 20/400-20/300, corrected to 20/20. was perfect four
months ago when i took some old frames in for new lenses.
have noticed in last couple months distance vision is getting
blurry, and when reading (damn those chinese characters!),
i now need to remove my glasses and hold the paper much
closer.

it can't be that i'm getting old! anyone notice changes to
eyesight pre-surgery that reverted to normal afterwards?

If you have to hold the paper closer, it just means your myopia (near sightedness) is getting worse. I seem to have progressive myopia and it just keeps getting worse all the time (very scary) except for this last year. It has nothing to do with getting old (although I'm that also).

Interesting thread.
I'm working 2 years (already) post-op. Three years ago I started wearing 1.25 reading glasses - and yes, just for reading. During this past year I've had to increase the strength to 1.75.

In my early forties I noticed that I had trouble to read the phone book, newspaper, etc.
This progressed somewhat during my mid forties....and I got some of those cheap generic reading glasses.
Post op, no change, but I went to the opto and got proper reading glasses since I was still covered on insurance.
2.5 yrs later, I'm still using the same glasses.

yeah, reading glasses are age-related - my eye-man thought I was doing well when I got my first prescription at about 47 or 48 years old - before surgery. And I think it gets worse as we get older, mine is not going that fast, though.

I'm finding my eyesight is quite bad.

Went and had my check-up twice in one year, last year change in

my lenses was made went back and the optomitrist says that my

problem is the fluctuation in all my medications and that can cause

some havac on my eyesight,so i don't know,but i definately do have

trouble seeing the best of times.Thank goodness it snowed and put some

light on the dark roads as without the snow,it was difficult at night to

drive even and see deer or moose crossing. omigosh always something

for me that gets worse:p:rolleyes:

I am not so sure everyone gets far sighted. I am near sighted and have my eyes checked every year. I wear contact lenses and its been many years since I have had a prescription change. I am not one bit far sighted and can read a book with any size print. I know many people who are near sighted and do need far sighted glasses or biofolcal to read the newspaper. I realize I am different than almost everyone I am still waiting to find out about my surgery for my Mitral valve. No one is really sure what is wrong with my teeth. i have had 2 root canals but that is not the answer. I might have TMJ . Any one have TMJ or TMD . I need some help

update on the vision problems.

prior to avr had been having grey mists. post avr have only had this twice,
both in the first week after discharge. had i not read about this here, i
probably would have panicked and rushed back to the hospital. nothing
in the last couple weeks.

also prior to avr i found my distance vision (recent lenses) had gotten blurry.
now a month after avr distance has gone back to normal, corrected to 20/20.
i'm thinking that must have had something to do with blood flow to the
ocular nerves.

as for reading, can now read most any size print when held at about 8".
for really fine print, or complicated chinese characters, have to hold closer
than 6" which requires removing glasses.

try reading this stuff in fine print....
