Hey Brian!

Hey Brian!

Welcome from another young vr.commer. I was 23 (and pregnant) when I found out I had heart disease. I had severe mitral stenosis from RF. I can tell you a few things, if you are a strong person, you will do well. I had my surgery to replace my mitral valve on August 27th of that year. Yes that's right, I am almost at my 4 year anniversary! If you have any questions, feel free to ask, everyone here is great, and you will find a wealth of information from everyone here. It's a great site, and we're all like one big cyber family! Good luck, and come back often!

Bryan, you are the age of my oldest grandson. I'm sorry that you had to join the forum in this way but you couldn't find a nicer bunch of people, and they are so wise and helpful. I had my AVR last June. Because of my age (62) and having leukemia I had to have the pigs valve. I've been completely happy with it. The medicine I take for leukemia and Coumadin just wouldn't work together at all.

You will be in my prayers. Remember the waiting is the hardest part of this whole situation. You just want to get it over with and start living again. But you will in due time. The climb over the mountain is easy compared to living with a bad heart. At least now I can climb over the mountain. Before I couldn't even make it to the mountain. LOL

Hugs coming your way from a seasoned grandmother. (I have 12!)

Hi Bryan, I'm Débora from Brazil and I know exactly how you feel. By the time I was your age, I'd already had 2 mitral valve replacements and here I am, in line for my fourth. The thrid one happened when I was thirty years old. I had rheumatic fever as a child and from then on, I've never stopped dealing with heart issues. I'm happy this site has helped you, and the more you come here, the better prepared you'll feel for your surgery. We're here for you!! Keep in touch and take care!
Débora
