Dark Circles - Possibly from Vitamin K deficiency

Hello,

I am St Jude Mechanical Valve survivor =) It will be almost two years now.

I'm currently taking coumadin and metoprolol.

Recently, there were some pictures taken of me, and now that I paid a little more attention.
I kinda have slight dark circles under my eyes, and I sleep plenty all the time

I went online it says it could be for Vitamin K deficiency, I know there is going to be Vitamin K definciency, have to avoid dark greens and Vitamin K. Have any of you guys experienced this and are there remedies to get rid of dark circles?

The dietary supplements grape seed extract and pycnogenol contain antioxidant pigments that may help to strengthen blood vessels. They should be used under medical supervision by people on "blood-thinning" drugs such as Coumadin (warfarin) and aspirin.

You DO NOT have to avoid vitamin K. In fact, it is advised that you do NOT do so.

You just have to balance keep a consistent diet and manage your coumadin intake to keep your INR in proper range.

I'm also prone to darkness under my eyes, but I am fair and slender and was like this before surgery as well.
Vitamin K is still part of a healthy diet as long as huge amounts are not binged on sporadically.
I eat broccoli 4-5 days a week and spinach occasionally.

As a matter of fact, supplement with mutli-vitamins (that have 60-80mcg of K) and adjust your doze to allow for consistent daily vitamin.

Please do some reading on the Anti-Coagulations sections of this forum. You will learn LOTS of very valuable information about Anti Coagulation Therapy. Up to date, current practice does NOT advise avoiding all leafy greens. That is old school and out of date teaching.
