What has your cardiologist said about the low INR? Maybe you have to be a little forceful with him and push the issue. It could be that you are exercising more and it is making the INR lower than the doctor expected. That doesn't mean that you should be less active, only that the doctor has to make the proper adjustments. It's a little tricky at first because everybody metabolizes Coumadin differently. You may need a little higher dose than his other patients.

I don't know if it's OK for you to be at 1.6 or not, and I wouldn't presume to offer medical advice. Only you and your doctor know where your range is (though I suspect strongly it's higher than 1.6). That's my point...don't make the changes without guidance.

4 miles a day?

4 miles a day?

Richie, You are walking 4 miles a day? Why? You are only 3 weeks post-op..Are you walking on a threadmill? It has to be too cold outside in New York...Better be careful..Don't fall..   At 3 weeks..I had just ventured outside..Bonnie

hey bonnie

i am walking outside. i bundle up real well ( hat, sweater w/ hood, gloves and heavy coat ) and based on the temp outside i either walk in the morning or the afternoon ( if it is too cold in the morning). i always feel fine when i am done walking. ironically before surgery i don't think i walked three blocks at a time unless i was working in the city.

i woke up last nite ( 2 am ) and noticed that my guns were bleeding and that the blood clumped up on my tooth ( looked like chewing tobacco). the nite before i woke up at 4:30am and my nose was bleeding. it wouldn't stop for one hour. has anyone ever expirienced this before?

Gums bleeding

Gums bleeding

I had the gums bleeding 3 months post-op..Had to go in for a deep cleaning. STAYED on coumadin. That did the trick. No more bleeding.Crazy coumadin..:p :p Bonnie

You crazy guy!

You crazy guy!

Gee whiz, Rich!!

If I woke up one night with bleeding gums with big clots and a nose bleed for an hour the night before..... I'd be for getting my little butt to a lab for a protime test!!

And by the way... I know for a fact exercising effects my INR. And my dosage consistently got higher for several weeks after my surgery. AND I take all my meds together in the morning. I don't see what difference it makes as long as you do the test at the same time of the day. I take the meds between 7 & 8 in the morning and test every Sat. between 4 & 5 in the afternoon. Works wonderfully for me. :)

And I was having horrible head aches. They tried to tell me I was having migraines. I went to a million doctors. Finally I started seeing this physical therapy guy who gives me massages. We figured out that I was having headaches after I had worked physically. Like pulling weeds, or painting or the other thing was sitting at my desk for too long of a time. And the squigglies I was seeing have almost entirely went away too. I was trying to blame them on the coumadin, but I think they were more related to the same thing that was causing the headaches. The funny thing is I still go to cardio rehab three days a week and work my little tail off with my heart rate over 140 for 50 mins and then lift wieghts and that doesn't give me a head ache! It's all wierd. Crazy freakin heart stuff. But I've had a messed up back for a long time and I'm sure crackin my chest open didn't help any.

ANYWAY..... I hope you tell us you went to the lab and got tested!!
