Well, our new grandson is four days old and has already received a failing grade on a required test.

They were ready to discharge him today when they ran the car seat test. He flunked! For those of you who aren't in the know, and I wasn't, they put the baby in their car seat and monitor the O2 level. Matthew's dropped down to 88% so he won't go home until it's in the mid-90's. His folks were disappointed but glad that it was caught before they started the 30 mile drive home.

My sister-in-law asked me if they gave the same test to our children when they were newborns. I said we didn't take them home in car seats. DH said pulse oximeters hadn't been invented yet! It's a whole different world, but in this case, a better one.

Hey Duffey,

That test is new to me, but I feel like you do, it was better to find this hiccup out about Matthew, before they got halfway home.

You are right. These tests weren't around when our kids were born. I never had an ultrasound with either pregnancies . No one could tell you the sex of the baby either.

Oh by the way, I walked to school 6 miles each way, in the snow, back then. Ha.

Wow, that could have been me when I was a newborn (if they even had hospitals that far back.) :tongue2: I say that b/c I must have a lazy lung. After my OHS, hospital was constantly concerned with my O2 level from ICU to the day I was discharged (five days later) -- and they only let me out after doing an entire day of laps around the nurses station in attempt to raise my oxygen intake level. My assigned nurse was totally hot so the exercise may have adversely affected my bp. :tongue2:

Anyway, Matthew is in good company -- no doubt he is a future superhero!
