Cindy I both lost this week. I lost 1.4 and Cindy lost .5. She has lost 8 pounds since starting with WW and I have lost 11 something. I'm now down 15.5 for the year and count myself very lucky to have done it. I ate a lot of seafood this week; I think that helped me a lot. One of those meals was a treat including fried fish, clams and shrimp, but I counted it as part of my extra weekly points.

Hi Cooker, you wanna be DW you!

You and Cindy are an inspiration, Wise. I guess this should tell me what I need to do. I will check out the Weight Watchers website. I've never looked into it too deeply. Is there a fee? Do you attend WW weigh-in meetings? I need to do something. No reason I can't lose at least 10 pounds in 2014 and keep it off.

Yes, there is a fee. I like the Monthly Pass which gives you access to online resources, or via app, which makes it easier to track. The Monthly Pass also includes admission to meetings. I recommend attending the meetings because you do get added support and good tips to keep you on track. The WW Monthly Pass costs $42.95 monthly. Yes, that's expensive but it is worth in the long run. It won't take you as long to lose those 10 pounds as you probably think. That's just info for you to use. Of course everyone has to do what works best for them. This current program works great for me.

For obvious reasons, Chimpster. You are swinging through the tropical paradise too much to be a reliable DW. :p

True dat :rolleyes2:.....

We are starting back with WW. trying to look at it as a design for living and not a diet. The tropics were a blast but added much fluid and poundage ... TheChimp will try to be, maybe just maybe, net/net for 2013!!! .... As always; there is no place like home.

I think that's a good approach. I'm very happy with WW as just that, a design for living. Hey, and you won't have to count points for bananas! They're free. I guess if you eating a whole tree full of bananas, then after a while the design would have to be adjusted ; )

Welcome back from tree swinging in the tropics!

Cooker, don't you know Baptists, the finest folk in the world, celebrate all things with the best food in the world? The Methodists, not to be outdone by the Baptists, also make the best food in the world and also celebrate with the finest food you can get. We celebrate with breakfasts,.lunches, dinner on the grounds, homecoming, visiting preachers, Thanksgiving, Every holiday we know about, and youth day. So dear Cooker, you are facing a tough battle very often and though nobody wants you to have overmuch calories, they just cain't hep it. We love our church but we know it comes with.food and sweet tea. And the Good Lord.

I might try the online Weight Watchers. I already have a lot of meetings. Does WW help when you live a chaotic life; have to grab some vittles to bring home for dinner too much etc.?

.........

In a little while this morning, I go to my semi-annual appointment with a hematologist. He will draw a bunch of blood, analyze it every which way, and see if I still have a downward trend in h&h. It is unsettling that this is done at a cancer center. My theory is that one of my other medicines has been causing this decline, but it could be something else, and at some point he could opt for some invasive test. I would appreciate any good thoughts, vibes, or prayers you want to send for me.
..........?

All best…and top of the morning to everyone…..

Superbob,

After I wrote a detailed post, my "fat" finger wrongly touched somewhere on the ipad that kicked me out and I lost all I wrote!

I'll start again. About ten years ago, at age 70, one of my older sisters was going through your same condition...she was getting miserable with all the different testings she had to do every time she was referred to a new specialist! They wanted to analyze the cause of the decrease in her hemoglobin's levels...They wanted to make sure it was not cancer to which we lost two sisters and a brother!

In her heart, my sister felt her system only needed a missing ingredient!

Upon insistence of her neighbor, she agreed to see her neighbor's relative who started practicing medicine maybe before all the specialists she saw were born!

That neighbor was an angel as her relative physician recommended that my sister takes iron pills, B-12, and Folic Acid 400 daily and check with him, not with any other, after a month.

Up-to-date, my sister prays for him continuously as he saved her from the invasive procedures other professionals were close to perform!!

In case you're not taking any of those pills, I encourage you. If you are, try to increase dose after discussing this with your doctor.

I am simply sharing what worked for my sister, as I strongly believe how some of us should not dismiss *our theories* nor our guts!

I m glad your results are slightly better and I hope they will continue to improve.

As for the throw-down, unfortunately I've picked up some of what others threw down!!

Thanks, Eva. I appreciate you sharing that experience one of your sisters had. I am taking a multivitamin and B-12 and occasionally take a liquid tonic with extra iron, but I understand you have to be careful not to take too much supplemental iron because an iron overdose is a serious risk. It's better to get the iron in food items like greens and black-eyed peas, I understand.

It's hard to know if the supplements helped, or something else, such as stopping a medicine suspected of lowering hemoglobin over time.

Anyway, I do appreciate your thoughts and concern.

When you sign up online you can still use the etools (website and app). These help a lot. Tracking is key and the app or the online tracker makes it easier so that you don't have to try to remember "how many points have I had so far today?" kind of things. You can access info about different foods in general or specific restaurants (chain restaurants) that helps a lot in deciding about the best vittles to bring home when you're on the go. It's doable.

Of course, I only want to encourage you. Try it out and see if you like it. I think you will, but we are all different. If you do sign up, take advantage of the weekly 49 points that you get in addition to your daily points. Some people try to not use them for faster weight loss, but I don't think it helps. Having the extra helps out with special occasions or unexpected situations.

Okay, thanks! I gather you can try it out without having to sign to it long-term or anything?

I'd recommend buying the 3 month deal they usually offer. You can purchase one month, but I think 3 months is needed to get sufficient results. Check the site out and see what appeals to you.

Mixed-up day -- thinking about joining Weight Watchers on one hand, took the Missus to Olive Garden on the other hand. That other hand had nice bowl of soup, one bread stick, and half the order of spags and meatballs -- saving the other half for tomorrow night. Would WW guide me through shoals like this? What about the Hummingbird Cake at Sea Captain's House? :eek2::smile2:

On a positive note, I was able to return to the community workout room -- renovations having finally been completed. Felt good. It's a needed add-on to a Superdawg walk.

according to my sister, a long time failing WW member, you would be guided away from the OLIVE GARDEN. but she would disobey. and that's how it works for her. her husband, on the other hand, would obey, not go and take a 5 mile run instead.

I am incredibly stressed out. I'm tired. I'm fighting a shingles outbreak. I feel like the Grinch. My weight's up, and I haven't started the hard core baking and cooking that goes with having a house full of kids and grandkids. Can I be the designated whiner?

You did pretty good at Olive Garden really. Ann is right overall, but you can fit anything in especially if you can plan for it. For the spur of the moment things you can still work with it, for example eating only half, as you did. Thumbs up!

I agree with Wise, Duffey -- take it as easy as you can. Have you battled shingles before? Are you sure that's what it is? Sure hope it's not -- or in any event that you'll feel better soon. Gosh, it's a tough time to go through that. Sending you my best thoughts and prayers.

Ann, in my days of yore (way yore!) I would go eat, eat, eat at a place like Olive Garden -- and then run the 5 miles. But best I can do now is walk and those calories come off slowly.

So Wise I will be pondering My WW options -- I have gotten pretty good about having half of dinner when we eat out and making the other half an at-home meal the next night. Saves a little stress on the budget, too. My downfall is at night when I snack on whatever's in the kitchen. Maybe I need the discipline of something like WW to tell me what and how much I can snack on.

Mary, is it too late for the shingles shot? Three of my friends battled it, gave me reports that convinced me to get it. So sorry you have these outbreaks. Just take it easy as much as you can.
