Okay, okay, there's times when the best I can do is serve as a bad example.
It's not all bad news, but my exercise has been reduced to about 1 hour each week. That's not the way to train for any sort of event, but at least I haven't gained any weight. So, please, no sympathy from y'all, but a kick in the shorts would be in order.
I've got a bunch of excuses that I'll spare you. If any of you are prone to my couch potato bug, I shall not suggest excuses that you may not have thought of yet.
So today, I did something fun. I'm going to call it a 20/20/20 workout. I had a blast doing it, and will do it again. 20 minutes swimming laps. 20 minutes on a stationary bike. 20 minutes on the dreadmill. I pushed the swim pretty hard, but took the bike and run at a slow pace - staying in fat burning range.
I also made friends with the elliptical machine . I've always felt real awkward on the darn thing and have dodged it. Today I got into a rhythm and lasted 8 whole minutes before my quads started to tighten up. I finished on the dreadmill. I want to spend more time on the ellipse to give my joints a break, but keep up (get back) the intensity.
I've reduced my Cowtown run in 2 weeks to the 5k. I intend to have fun and enjoy my 3rd Cowtown - this time with several friends. Woo hoo!
Finally I bought a pair of tri shorts. I've been wearing running shorts for all my workouts including the bicycle and swim. I felt a lot sleeker in the water today. An important side note: They make my legs look great (no photos ), but exaggerate the tummy bulge.
I continue to be inspired by the words of Les B "It takes courage to get started" and Mark W "Quitting is not an option".
