Al's clicks all the time...never stops, thank heavens. So, I guess the answer is either always or before, during and after. Doesn't bother me in the least. I actually like the sound. But, it is a really pussy cat magnet. Our cats just love to prop up next to his left side and they purrrrrrrrr so loud.

My cat does that, too!! I had never heard him purr so loud until I came home with this noisy vavle. He loves to lay next to my chest and purr. At first I thought he was just glad to have me back home, but it's continued for several months.

My age 14 year old cat..Female..loves..when I get up early. Get in my recliner..and snuggled with me.. she gets really high on my chest and really purrs. She knows that is the only time we have together..before the rest of the household wakes up...Hubby..age 8 year old male cat and dog. ..Wish I had that loving from my Hubby. ..I leave him snoring in the bed at that time of the morning... ......K.C knows..that is our time..the rest of the day..she is ignored. ..Bonnie
