Hi nanc107,

I could be wrong but if they've done an MRI I wouldn't think you need a CT scan. I usually get CTs yearly but had an MRI once and it pretty much showed the same thing. Mine is always with contrast and show the arteries around the aorta.

Do you have copies of your MRI reports? Those might tell you all the measurements. For example, my report says that along with a 4.4 aneurysm in the ascending aorta I also have aneurysms in the origins of the "great vessels," including the braciocephalic, left common carotid and subclavian arteries. I even have a small aneurysm in the artery going to the spleen! Wonder if that has anything to do with my connective tissue disorder.

It's amazing what else a CT or MRI can discover - never knew I have numerous gallstones : ) So I would suggest getting a copy of your report and looking through the numbers if you already haven't.

Best of luck!

I just had the discussion of Ascending aortic aneurism and BAV with Skyler’s surgeon.

His point of view was that in MOST people, the Aortic Aneurism in the Aorta is a result of the BAV (regurgitation, etc…). Once the valve is replaced, and the aneurism is taken care of (Skyler got a graft), the Aortic root heals itself.

I asked this specifically since Skyler’s Aortic root was hugely dilated as well as his ascending Aorta, and they did not replace his aortic root.
