Hi All, An echo I had done about 8 weeks ago said there were ''3 clefts on mv anterior leaflet''...I searched and searched but can only find stuff on ''thickened leaflets''. Does anyone know anything about the ''cleft'' thing. Thanks everyone.

Hi,
Did a search and came up with this definition:

" A mitral valve cleft is a slit-like or elongated hole in one of the leaflets (anterior leaflet) that form the mitral valve."

Hope this helps!

Hi. I was born with a "cleft" mitral valve. Along with an ASD and VSD. For my first surgery, they were able to sew the cleft valve together. It lasted for 17 years then it tore due to scar tissue build up and I needed to have a mechanical valve placed. I don't know if this helps you at all. Have a nice day. Diane

Thank you ........
