Oh man, if you were intubated for 48 hours no wonder your tongue is swollen. As a speech path I can tell you it usually messes with the vocal folds and you end up with a very hoarse voice. It should resolve soon. Just don't let it get in the way of the turkey!!

Best wishes!

Hi Jim,
Glad your home, sounds like you had a few setbacks. Your tongue should really be decreasing by now, it's not real common to have this problem. If it hasn't decreased any I would be concerned about infection, allergic reaction to something or med that you are taking etc. may need to be on antiinflammatory med or possibly antibiotic or it could be oral thrush,it should be reported to doctor if you have seen no change. Any swelling of anywhere in mouth, tongue, throat should be handled in a proactive way rather than reactive . Hope this helps good luck hfk

Call your Dr's office and ask for the nurse and ask her/him why it is swollen. My second thought is that your wife or significant other may like it that way..he he he.

PS I have had to reopened three times for one of my surgeries. Also I forgot to ask did you get the trucks plate number?

Hey Jim

Hey Jim

Glad to hear that you are home. I just got home last Sat from my re-admission, but the best feeling was sleeping on my nice comfy mattress!

As far as the tongue goes, my tongue didn't swell, but food still doesn't taste right. Also my throat was sore up until just a few days ago. They had told me it would be as they were also using a TEE during my surgery.

I saw my doctor yesterday and I still have an effusion on my right side (lung) so I have to continue to breathe, breathe, breathe. Don't forget to use your little machine to take deep breaths.

Wanna have a contest? lol :D :D
