I am 4 years and a few months post op...I went every 6 months...Last Jan he told me I could go 1 year..but be sure and have an echo ........which I called and got one for Dec. of this year..Last night, I had an auto message reminding me . I had an appointment this Tuesday for a 6 month check-up...... ..their computer was down on my last visit. I am wondering if they had me on a 6 month checkup?.........How often do you all go?.....I am doing great. no problems..and remember that he said, 1 year?bonnie

Don't mix up what the doctor tells you with what he forgets to tell his staff (who set up the automatic reminders), Bonnie. Those automatic setups can be helpful in a busy world, but they can also be out-of-control juggernauts.

Best wishes,

I go every 6 months. But I tend to run anemic every now and then, and my aortic valve has been questionable from time to time.

I see both the surgeon and cardio every 12 months. I was a little over 12 months post op when I saw them earlier this year. As I was 41 at the time of surgery 11/2004 the surgeon wants to keep an eye on me so he can decide when it is time again. The cardio maintains the drug regime fortunately now only Perindopril and Aspirin. My heart function and size has returned to normal post operation. I have an echo and CT with contrast every 12 months. :)

Bonnie-

You are doing so well. It's just wonderful.

My dear husband averages about 3 doctor appts. per month at the present time, not including Protimes.

But, then, he's from another planet :D

Hi Bon

Tyce goes twice a year.....he gets an echo once a year and an ekg twice and meets with our dr. twice.......hope it helps.

Yes,
I go every six months but I'm only a year out from surgery, and I have issues.

Most folks only do go once a year, however, after the first year. Me, for instance. It would not be surprising at all that you remember your doctor suggested you have an echo only once annually.

Best wishes,

It wouldn't be a big deal..I would go..but, I have an early morning PCP annual checkup the next day...Pap smear, ect.....In the same town. Long, hot drive..Lots of traffic, ect.......I am 100% sure..I aked my Cardio on Jan. 17th..do I need to come evey 6 months? he said, NO, but make sure you have an echo once a year..that day, was after I had my echo in late Dec..and he told me it was fine.:) I went to the desk to schedule an echo..Their computer was down..so I called the next day. I have had this year's echo on my calendar for this Nov. 8th...since then...Why would I have an appointment on Nov. 8th and one Tuesday? Sure it was a mistake. will call them tomorrow and explain things. I have a common last name..like Smith:D so they may have me mixed up with someone else.:p .. Still interested in hearing from others after their surgery..How often they go?..after the first year, like Bob said...Never saw a surgeon other than the 3 week post-op.. Just my Cardiologist. bonnie

Hi Bonnie! My mom sees her cardio every 3 months and has yearly echos. She has chf issues so she seems him more often than a lot of people. Then she also sees her kidney guy too a few times a year. Then there is the issue of going to the pharmacy-which between her and my stepdad is ALL the time!!:) Deb

Bonnie:
Al sees the cardiologist every six months. He has an EKG twice a year and an Echo every 18 months. His surgery was in October, 1990.

I just had an 11 month postop cardiology with echo. He said I did not need to come back for a year and to have another echo at that time. I need to see the electrophysiologist in 1 1/2 wk. I would be glad to be done with him.
