Can you help me?

OK, all--

I have a student who is having trouble finding information for her reading project on the book Hiroshima. She says she can't find any information on Japan-U.S. relations before and during World War II. (She is the only student who has contacted me with concerns related to this). I've checked it out and actually helped her with some websites that might assist her in finding information. She says she still can't find anything.

Do any of you know of any online resources pertaining to this topic?

I just tried to do a search on Google. I can see why she is complaining, The information is either available at a cost or it gives lists of books in some library somewhere that you would have to order through your library, and who knows when or if you would even get the books needed. Maybe one of the online encyclopedias would have the most available information. It's probably not ideal and might be very limited, plus there seems to be a lot of different aspects of the relations between the two countries which would make it a long study with tremendous amounts of reading.

I found quite a few tidbits just by searching google with the criteria "hiroshima book" http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=hiroshima+book&aq=10&oq=hiroshima

For what it's worth, I found the audiobook by John Hersey on the Itunes store for 13.95... You need the Itunes application for this link, but it's here. I searched pretty good for other free options. I'd pay 14 bucks for an A if it was a large enough portion of my grade.

It's time your student learned the cold, hard truth: MOST of the world's historical information has NOT been published on the web. Shocking, I know! <-- sarcasm.

She will have to visit the * gasp! * library and find a stack of books (a/k/a/ "hard copy"). Then she will have to..... oh, the humanity!..... search the indexes and tables of contents to find sections that discuss her topic. Maybe she will even have to.... read part of a text book -- or an encyclopedia! It could take her some serious time -- maybe two or three hours! Think how many text messages she could send while she is reading -- BOOKS!

But tell her not to despair! She will earn important bragging rights when she regales her friends about the extreme old-school-ed-ness of her latest project.
