Well, I didn't make it to the Greek festival. Got part way there and starting hurting so bad I had to come home. My SO is going back to bring home some food so it's not a total loss. I will miss the ambiance tho which is a big part of the experience.

I picked up my Medrol prescription (luckily I have refills available since this is not a new thing) and that should start making things better.

Lynn - not sure about weather related. I think it is fluid retention related if anything which could be connected to the weather. In reality, I am not sure there is anything I can say for sure. It does seem to beat me up when I am feeling my best beforehand so go figure.......

Dennis - thanks for the wonderful picture. You know Ellie always cheers me up.

Thanks to everyone else for the pampering. RCB - I am trying to be careful. Maybe you are right about the Graeter's. A turtle sundae might go great after a gyro.

I am now waiting for the Greek goodies to get here.

I had this with you the last time and dang don't want to do it again----I shall not worry about the chest xray the dr did on Friday since she could not hear breath sounds. I have found a heating pad to be benefical although don't fall asleep on one. I do Vicodin and have not used the Indocin in a few years but would revisit that in a minute if the need arises. I have had my pericardium removed leaving thin strips but those strips can cause the same pain level as a full pericardium. You are right multiple surgeries do have a long list of negatives. Hope you are better soon

I like company but not in this situation. I hope it stays away from you. I have found heat wraps (Therma-Care) help as well as massage only because they are a diversion but welcome nonetheless. My SO is so very wonderful when I am ill that I sometime feel I am way too lucky. I also find that I get a bit manic when I have pericarditis - talking constantly (yes, a change from the norm for me) and walking even when I know I need to rest. I think I am trying to walk away from the pain but, of course, we know that cannot happen. I also have very little left of my pericardium but it only seems to take a little bit to get inflamed.
The Medrol is working already and the percocet takes the edge off so I am doing okay. I am annoyed tho because I had planned to paint the pool fence this weekend and now that is out. Oh well............

Gina, I am so sorry you are hurting and hope you start to feel better soon. I'm glad you have something that helps with the pain but it sure isn't nice that you have to go through this as often as you have. I love the heat wraps! I usually have a package or two in the car and if I really get to hurting while I'm driving I just open one up and they never fail to give me a measure of comfort. And....I don't think you were whining either but if you want to then go right ahead.

Thanks all. I actually got some sleep for a couple hours. Percocet is my friend right now.

Wise - love the Brie idea but can I have it with champagne? Oops - probably not with the percocet.

This is the weekend for our local Greek festival and I will NOT miss it so we are going for a short time this afternoon. Luckily they have shuttle busses so walking will be a minimum. "Gyros, baklava, dolmades, mousaka, souvlakia, here I come." Good old comfort food - Greek style.

I agree, champagne is the best choice...post percocet of course.

How was the Greek food?

The food was wonderful, especially the Mousaka - so moist and just simply perfect. I just miss watching the dancers while munching so I am still a bit bummed about missing the festival. I'll have some feta with that whine.

I assume you mean the pericarditis? Originally (after my second OHS) I had several bouts where the cardio wasn't sure what was going on because he couldn't hear a rub and all other cardiac issues were ruled out by echo, chest xrays, etc. The third time it happened, he put me in the hospital again and brought in infectious disease doctors. I was a new fan to sushi and he also wanted to rule out some kind of strange reaction to fish. While I was at the hospital, the rub finally appeared and it was like a celebration because we finally solidified the pericarditis (although it had been expected all along).

Since then the symptoms have been the same. A slight pain (somewhere in the upper chest/shoulder area) that seems initially like a muscle pull, progressing to an excrutiating pain that is worse with deep breathing and prone positions. Sometimes there is a rub and sometimes not. Sometimes there is a slight fever and sometimes not. This time I have both so there is no question which is why I started on the Medrol so early. The earlier I start the dosepack, the quicker this is knocked out. Then I can put my Percocet away and go back to champagne.

I was thinking about you last night and intended to post a message asking how you are. I guess I got my answer and I am so sorry. I would never guess you have these repeatedly, you are so positive and bright when you post. Even when you're sick you are positive. I hope you're feeling better very soon. You've made me hungry for Greek food, but it's not readily available here in South Texas. We have some great Mexican food, though. I'll be thinking of you and sending you positve thoughts.
