The most compelling story I've heard is about the couple from Wisconsin, who's 2 yr old daughter had fallen down a staircase and earlier that day and was being air lifted to HCMC, and the couple was following her to the hospital when they were caught in the bridge collapse! Their vehicle plunged into the river, but luckily, they had just opened their windows b4 the collapse and so were miraculously able to escape and swim to safety.

Oh my goodness ... I hadn't heard that story ... must've missed it somewhere along the way.... But, wow ... what an inspirational story....

Cort, here is the list about the missing people and nice stories about each. It os heart breaking. I am still amazed that so many more people didn't die,I guess that is the silver linng in this IF you can even call it that. Rush our traffic back to back care, I as sure there would be hndreds of people dead.
I keep thinking about one poor guy, his pregnant wife and 2 year old dauhter are missing, he lost his enitre family. I can't imagine, that morning he had a little girl and was looking forward to a new bab and then at the end of the day, everyone was gone, Lyn

Oh...Lyn ... thank you for posting that link.

Those stories just serve to remind you how fragile life is ... and how it can be "haphazzard" ... and how one decision can change your life forever.....

Aye.

We were about 90 miles from the Cities when this tragedy occurred. It was difficult to enjoy our vacation when we recognized that we were so near to the devastation--physical and mental.

Interesting article on the front page of yesterdays paper. Once the couple got to their daughter the man was arrested for child abuse. Seems she had symptoms of shaken baby syndrome and human bites on her legs. They may be putting the mother in custody to since on his way to pick up the childs mother at work he passed three hospitals and did not take the child to any of them. THey sound like sick human beings and hopefully will get treated exactly as the child was treated.

Yes Kathleen,

Yes Kathleen,

It seemed like such a great human interest story when I first posted it!

I haven't read the article yet, but I had heard a little bit about that on the news the other night. Unfortunately, they said the child was in critical condition. I hadn't heard about the human bite marks...that really is sick:mad: I can understand someone getting so frustrated that they shake a small child (not that it's right), but I really don't get deliberately biting them!

I live about 15 minutes from the 35W bridge. My daughter had left for the Twins game about 5:45 last Wednesday night. She had gone with 2 guys she works with and I wasn't sure which route they were taking. She usually goes through downtown. But these were new people and they were driving, leaving right from her work. So I was worried. I had been napping when I turned on the TV to see the bridge had collapsed and the horror that followed. About 7:30 my cell phone made an odd noise and her name popped up as caller ID but no text message got through. I tried calling her back and got her voice mail. But at least I knew she must be ok. It was very scary.

Today is the funeral for Sherry Engebretson. Believe it or not, there are picketers at the funeral saying that it was God that brought the bridge down throwing them into Hell. I feel so badly for the family to have to deal with all this at their loved one's funeral! The police came into our building (I don't work far from the church where the funeral is going on) as some of the picketers were gathering in our parking lot.

Prayers to all those affected.
