Well it won't be up for much longer (they change the site every day after the paper is done) but it might be up until morning, Eastern Time.

My editor put me on the spot and asked me to cover a polar bear swim that happened Sunday. Not just shoot the photos mind you (I'm a photographer in case you didn't know) but I had to write the story too!

Oy!

Well I can write decently, just can't schpiel bery wel, stel chex si mi bust frend...

Did you catch that?

Anyways, the article and photos ended up being the main package on the front page of Monday's edition.

Whoohoo!

I went to see my primary physician this afternoon about a pesky cold that I caught and had my cell phone off when my editor called to say he thought I did a great job and he wants to talk more about my "future".....

He's already suggested I might start doing stories on the "police beat" since I know practically everyone in the local police and fire departments and they all have a fair amount of respect for me.

Whoohoo!!!

Imagine me doing photos and a story on a muder investigation or some major drug bust!!!!

Ok, so what if no one has been murdered here in about five years, it COULD happen.......

and here's what it said:

Fun for all

Ice bathers enjoy the water near the Lake Erie shore in Silver Creek Sunday afternoon as part of the Third Annual Polar Bear Swim at Hideaway Bay Restaurant.

Beautiful picture, Steve - but those folks are plumb crazy! You are a fine photographer and I wish you well in your advancing career. Bet you had fun with this one. I was some bathers on TV - was this them?

We have another photographer (in Ireland, so not to worry) - Billy.

What I'd like to know is who chopped the huge section of ice on Lake Erie, so they could get in?

This time of hear it's got to be mucho thick.

Ummm... While these guys were on TV for their stunt, they probably weren't the folks you saw unless you were watching TV Sunday night in the Buffalo, NY area...

Technically, they didn't actually jump into the lake. They jumped into the mouth of a fairly big creek that empties into the lake, one of the many "rivers" that flow north around here....

If you know your geography, you know they always tell you the only river that flows north is the Nile and they're wrong because, along witha great number of creeks and streams, the Cayahoga (did I spell that right?) River in Cleveland flows NORTH into Lake Erie.

Anyways, the water was actually quite frigid, below freezing. They couldn't jum into the lake proper because there was a fair amount of free flowing chunks of ice being pushed up against the shoreline by the waves.

There was more to that article... I have it on file at the office, what was there on the front "page" of the website was just the first few lines of the story, and the main photo.

Harpoon,

Missed the story (sorry, I'm a little slow sometimes), but I just had to add that the Licking River in northern Kentucky flows north into the Ohio River just across from downtown Cincinnati.
