where I live, at home, there is a farm not far from my house that has lots of goats. the other day I passed the farm and saw one goat standing on a stump. it's diameter couldn't have been very big, but this goat had all FOUR feet on it and was having no trouble balancing and just resting there. If I'd had a camera...... thought I would ask you how they do that. very cute and interesting.

Lucky you. Goats for neighbours. :) They don't gossip.LOL
Goats ancestry is such that they are familiar with navigating rocky and narrow passages to find food, so they are incredibly nimble.
My male, as a baby kid, could climb up a very steep narrow, wooden stairway, push open the wood trap door and enter the loft, where he would eat, play, and make one heckuva mess. Total brat.

Our town had about 1,200 residents when we moved there in 1996. At one time, there was a home with a fenced yard of goats on the main road.
Every time I drove by, I thought "CABRITO!" (not that I've ever had cabrito, though)

A friend who lives north of Fort Worth, Texas, raises & shows some type of small goats.

I have a couple of neighbors that ARE old goats! This has to count for something (other than me just wanting to add my 2 cents)

:D:p I think I might be the only OLD goat in the area!!

tks about the info. in Az visiting daughter some yrs ago they drove up on top of one of those rock mountains and up there were herds of cattle AND goats. don't see how they managed but they ate the patches of grass and scrub and didn't seem to fall off. there were even cattle gaps up there.

Ann, if you think that is neat, you should google fainting goats.. That is hilarious. Someone told me they had some, and i didnt believe him, but he showed me a video of his "fainting goats".... it was the best.

Goats as Bina says, are very nimble bodied & they will climb to places you've never dreamt of. I have seen them on roof tops so that kind of behavior doesn't surprise me at all! LOL! :p:p

I have seen these goats. where had they been all this time before the media found them. that is just the strangest thing. and then they just get up and go on their way. and fall over again. how very odd.

yep nature is wondrous - and odd.

looking again at those fainting goats, has anyone noticed that when they are lying there, their legs are stiffly sticking out in front of them. when someone faints, they are usually limp - these goats are not! it begs the question "is it really a faint?". if not, then what?

I wonder if they're "petrified with fear"?:confused::eek::p

I see y'all just can't stop thinking about goats.....me neither......LOL :)
The "fainting" breed has a genetic condition which causes their muscles to contract and seize up when they are startled.
This only lasts for a few minutes, but it sure looks scarey.
Now y'all know the reason and can sleep better tonight.

Driving home yesterday we passed a field that had a herd:confused: of 75-100 goats.
I'm afraid they are probably destined for someone's food table, but I hope not.
How would you rate the size, Bina? Large, medium or small?

Hopefully that herd of goats was milkers.... 75-100 is hobby sized.
Lambs are usually sold in early summer or late spring for meat (Easter, etc.)
My Greek neighbours have over 1,500 milkers for making feta, yogurt, etc. SO GOOD. :)
They have the white Saanen breed.
Other breeds are better for meat, but we won't go there. ;)
