BAV hereditary?

In my immediate family, 3 of us were born with BAV. My mother is 69 and her BAV has not been an issue. At 41, I had mine replaced with a mechanical valve before I had major symptoms. My brother, at 36, has moderate leakage but may be able to put off OHS many years/decades. So why did I get it the worst? Possibly because I'm the most active.
