Back Ache

Back Ache

I am 5 months post op from mitral valve rplacement. I did not have shoulder aches or back aches like those that described it here in this thread. I doubt very much that my current lower back ache is associated with the basic surgery at all. I started getting a lower back ache over the last month or so. All was fine til I was switched from Warafin to Coumadin. I have a sneaky suspicion this is my cause of the pain. It happens when I bend over forward while working at a counter top, kitchen table or even sitting in a lawn chair and getting up. When I go to get up or walk away I look like the hunch back of ND for awhile. It is near impossible to sraighten up. It is more of a severe discomfort than pain. Not sure if any side effect like this is from the switch to coumadin or not. I see my cardio in a month for my 6 month check up. I'll have to see what he thinks....Gary

Hello -

The pain I had was in my upper back - mostly near my right shoulder blade. I suspect lower back pain is from a different source.

Also, coumadin is just a brand name for warfarin sodium. It's possible that you react a little differently to the generic (warfarin) than to the branded version (coumadin) but I have not heard of this. Warfarin is also used as rat poison so be glad you're not a rat. Just a little cardio black-humor - you get used to it after a while.
