Good morning all - I finally saw the electrical cardiologist on Monday and he put me on Atenonol (50mg once a day) to try and control my fast heart rate and the extra beats I keep getting. From what he said, I have an extra beat at the bottom and an extra beat at the top (I can't figure that part out). I still have the Mitral Valve Prolapse and Regurgitation which my surgeon did not want to repair/replace at the time he replaced the aortic valve and repaired the tricuspid valve (May 2008). He said that it would take at least a year for my heart to return to normal after having OHS. My question is this: Has anyone ever experienced kidney problems while on this medication? I started having severe kidney pain this morning and I cannot get it under control. I am thinking of going to the ER on my way home from work at 2pm. The only other medications I am on are: Warafin (2.5mg), Nexium, Estradial (hormone) and 81mg aspirin. All these medications are once a day. I feel like I have kidney stones again and I am not thrilled with that since I have not had them since the 1990's and thought I was through with them. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

I was on Atenolol for quite a while and didn't get any symptoms like what you are talking about. It just made me tired.

Good luck figuring it out!

I was on atenolol for years and never had any kind of problem. I am not sure of the side effects. Maybe if you google it will tell you. Good luck.

Not from Atenolol, maybe Nexium, but I'm thinking your right about stones or a severe infection.

Here is a nice list of Nexium side effects.....You may fit in there! Heck even your new heart problem could be related to it.
