Since this morning I seem to have gotten some arrythmias back while in the hotel. Is this anticipated and could I expect this to happen several times? Does this usually resolve itself with time or drugs?

Hi canon4me,

I had a lot of these with the AVR in 2002, but have not experienced any this time around (day 15). They did settle last time with slight (and temporary) medication tweaking.

I hope this helps.

I had some. Does your surgeon have an assistant you can call? You want to be able to call and then stop worrying. So many little things happen and they all go away.

As I mentioned in another thread, I had afib off and on for about the first month after my valve replacement. After that, no afib. Only occasional bouts of tachycardia, which my cardio and electrophysiologist see as no problem, since they last for seconds and I am in coordinated sinus rhythm all through it. (e.g. For each atrial pulse, there is a coordinated ventricular pulse.)

In almost all cases, this sort of thing is temporary. It is sometimes bad enough that they treat it with meds, sometimes not. Rarely is it serious enough that additional procedures are called for. I'd give them a chance to deal with it, and view it as just a bump in the road of recovery.

I just went in to afib after being in sinus rhythm for about 26 hours. I will give an explanation that a cardiac nurse practitioner gave me yesterday. She said that with a major heart operation my heart was acting out like a little kid. She said my "new" heart was trying to adjust to its new state. She was being funny but she said my heart wasn't happy with what happened to it and it was letting me know.

Does that make any sense at all? Maybe you would want to share your perspective on that. Thanks!
