Hi everyone,
FirstI would like you all to know that this site has been a blessing. I have read it daily and prayed for all. It has educated me not only about valve replacement, but also about the love that can be shared through the internet.
I am going to see my cardiologyst tomorrow and I might have my mv repair this week.
I am trying to avoid thinking about the posibility of having an operation this week but I know that I need to have one since I went to the cardio almost 3 months ago.
The thought of being incapacitated for any lenght of time is frightening me even though I know that my family is here to help me.
Friday was my last day at work, and today I had to go in just to see the kids (I teach kindergarten).
If I am scheduled for this week, what are some of the pre- ops that I will need to face beside catherization? Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi Rachelle. You will probably have a chest xray, lots of blood work, ekg, maybe an echo and meet with the anesthesiologist, and a variety of other people. I remember Dick making the rounds of about 4 or 5 offices. Have you picked a surgeon and met with him yet? Let us know how you make out with the cardio and of course when you get a surgery date. Best wishes to you.
Phyllis

Rachelle,
Since I had been having tests done on a regular basis over the last several years, I didn't have a catherization. I had a TEE leading up to being referred for MV repair, then the day before my surgery I had various blood tests, the usual blood pressure, temperature, and a chest xray. My pre-op took around 1 1/2 hrs, including giving the hospital all of my insurance information.

Hi,
Thanks for all the info.
I had a TEE and was seen by the surgeon. I am going to NYU with Dr. Colvin.
Will keep you posted after my visit with the cardio.
