Hi,

I have decided to go forward and have a surgery date of Nov. 30th at Cleveland Clinic to repair my aneurysm and replace my bicuspid aortic valve.

I am wondering about whether or not you are usually given antibiotics during surgery?

thanks,

Betsy

Betsey, I can't help you with the antibiotic question, but I will put you on the calendar for November 30th. So glad that you decided to go ahead with it a Cleveland Clinic. You will be in good hands.

Good question. I would think that they would. It's probably intravenous. I know we still require them even after the replacement...at least I do, for dental work and what not.

Betsy:
I think you have made a good decision. In the meantime, we will be sending good wishes your way and all our hopes for a successful surgery and an easy recovery.
Kind regards,
Blanche and Al

For the whole time I had a bladder catheter, I was given IV antibiotics. I had the cath four or five days pre-op and at least three days post. Every time the nurse brought a new bag, she commented I had to continue the antibiotic as long as I had the cath in place.

Sending you all the best wishes, Betsy. You've made an excellent decision IMO
