Some days are better than others. The water heater relief valve blew, and what a mess! So I've been mopping, water vacuuming and toting heavy buckets all day.

Trying to get a plumber to fix it may take some time. We have no hot water, and because the cold water runs through our freezing ground, it's ice cold.

This happened because we got a new gas meter installed and the fellow shut off the gas appliances, then relit them after the installation was complete, and "thar she blew".

Fortunately the utility company agreed to cover the claim.

Hope the plumber calls tomorrow.

WOW Nancy !

"When it rains, it pours" :D

We expect a full analysis of all the 'replacement valves' ASAP. Also a report on which 'Doctors' you recommend. ;)

Tomorrow will be better!

Tomorrow will be better!

Nancy:

Here's hoping tomorrow is much better -- with running hot water.

Will the utility cover the clean-up? (Pay you for your trouble?)

Yeap it's Monday alright!

Your pressure relief valve combined with my Oxygen payment problems, indicate that this is not going to be a good week.

I took a statement out of all the statements received on all this O2 equipment, setting it aside because I knew the day would come when they wanted to double charge me for something. Do you think I can find that dang statement anywhere?

Valve surgery over!

Valve surgery over!

The patient just got out of surgery. It took about a half hour. The patient was not anesthetized and did not require bypass time. Valve replacement was done with a minimally invasive method through the side, by Dr. R. Down. A much loved Fury valve was implanted, manufactured by Rheem.

The patient was required to get moving, and refused, so the surgeon, who is pretty tough, lit a fire under the patients bottom.

Patient's temp is approaching 120, and the family is very happy with the result.

Nancy,

A Rheem Fury! Is that just a new pressure relief valve, or a whole new heater?

Nancy,

I love your sense of humor, but I gotta tell you that seeing the thread titled "Another Valve Shot"gave me a start. Hope your week gets smoother. At least you can take a hot shower.

I don't know, Nancy-

I think you kind of rushed into the decision to get that new mechanical valve without checking out whether or not a natural valve would be a viable alternative ;)

Hope your patient doesn't sleep too much as it is recovering from the VR!

Ross-
Where do you get all of those great .gifs?

Bill-

Just the valve.

Ask your surgeon about getting a new Rheem Fury valve. It implants in a half hour. See what he says. :p Maybe you'll have him Googling it all over the place to see what it is.

Seems to me a mechanical valve in this instance is the best option to go with as a pig's valve would just fall apart in a matter of days (if not hours) and leave a big ole' mess inside the tank....

Not sure I'd want bits of pig valve spewing out of the faucets and stopping up the shower head....

That just seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Is your hot water tank on coumadin now???

My tank's not on coumadin, but it should be on something to keep it from clogging up with all of the minerals we have in our water here!

Loved this thread Nancy. Enjoy your hot showers!

We had an additional hot water heater put in this week and the plumber has been by the last three days increasing the water pressure in the house until it was "just right". Tonight I get a long hot shower with lots of water pressure...I can hardly wait!
