Has anyone read Dan Brown's book by the above title? Wow !!! what a book!! Guess how the Pope died ? Careful now, don't reveal too much for those who have not read it yet. Mr. Brown has obviously mastered the art of blending fact and fiction, and I wish I had his patience to do the research he has done.

Hey, Chris,
I haven't read them, but my hubby is hooked on that series. I'll try to get him to post on here later.

I read it about 2 months ago. It was very good. We spent a week in Rome 3 summers ago and were at just about every place the sculptures were. So it was fun to picture the spots. Our hotel was 2 blocks away from the Piazza Novona and 1 block away from the Pantheon. I didn't see any suspicious characters!

We are going to Paris for a week at the end of this month. Then I'll have to reread The DaVinci Code!

I loved both those books. They were really fast reads.

This is a picture of my daughter Shelby and I at the Pantheon. That was what she looked forward to seeing the most in Rome.

I guess I will have to run out and buy this book. You have piqued my interest! I read the DaVinci Code and this book sounds similar (?). As Karlynn said, The DaVinci Code was a fast read and I hate to admit, I was one of the ones who believed the story - swallowed it hook, line, and sinker!! I was so depressed when I got far enough into the book as I thought everything I had been taught about Christianity was a lie. :( Oh gullible me!

Anyway, Karlynn, the picture of you and your daughter is so great! You look like sisters! Paris and Rome - you lucky!! I have only been out of this country to Canada - Victoria, B.C., which was wonderful, but would love to go to Europe also someday.

I'd flown twice in my life before we took our Mediterreanian cruise and week in Rome 3 years ago. We wanted to do something special as a family before the kids went to college. The trip to Paris came up pretty quickly. Our daughter's boyfriend is doing a 2 month internship there starting this week. She begged to go by herself to visit (uh...NO!) and my husband, totally out of character, said "Why don't we go with her." Before Rome, the most exotic place I'd been was Arizona - and we drove there! We loved our trip 3 years ago so much that we swore we'd try and do more. Life is short!

Both the DaVinci Code & Angels and Demons have so many fact-based sites and small pieces of information, that the reader does get caught up in it and begins to believe. You have to keep reminding yourself that they are works of fiction. They are good "summer reads" for anyone looking for some.

I sort of read the DaVinci Code, but was on vacation and hurrying through it. It seemed to get bogged down with so much description of the art and artists that I lost interest and went to the 'back of the book' (hanging my head in shame) and looked. But I want to go back to it and really read it again to get the meat of the story - guess I didn't stay long enough to get to that part. Then maybe I will get to this one. I read every day so am always looking for new books.

Anne,
BK (before kids) I was a voracious reader. I never seemed to have trouble getting through a book. Now I find that I really have to be "in the mood" (no this isn't the sex thread) and it has to grab me pretty quickly in the first few pages or I just don't have time to plug away on it. I never used to go to the back of the book, but now... I don't have the time to waste on something that doesn't reach me.

Daughter who lives w/me used to be a voracious movie watcher. She now tells me - all I need to see is the first and last parts; just can't concentrate long enough for the whole thing. I agree on that one - but both of us read all the time and the night time read is like a sleeping pill. When you realize you don't know what you're reading; time to put it down, turn out the light and next day pick up those lost pages!

Course 'in the mood' isn't part of our lives at present - we are both manless. :p

I devoured the DaVinci Code too, and I still can't figure it out, does Dan Brown believe anything of what he writes? Is it an elaborate hoax? Is it demonic? But I never doubted that it was a page turner.

On the subject of Rome, I read Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Marble Fawn some years ago; I remember the story line being weak, but the description of all the sights in Rome was fascinating.

If you like "Da Vinci Code" and "Angels & Demons" read "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" and "The Woman with the Alabaster Jar." both of these are books Dan Brown read before writing Da Vinci Code. In fact he gets the name of Sauniere from a real life priest, member of the Priory of Sion, from Holy Blood Holy Grail. Both books are very interesting, but I don't recommend them for Roman Catholic true believers. But, if you are upset with the direction of the Catholic church (as I have been for years) they are very enlightening.

A new book just came out about the secrets of the Da Vinci Code.
