I've been having headaches recently and Friday it dawned on me that I should take my bp. It was up - not dangerously so, but in the 80s and a couple times in the 90s (bottom #). So off I went today to see my dear friend. He agreed my bp need something done. He added an ace inhibitor to the lot (am already on atenolol and Benicar 40mg). If someone is using Altace, tell me about it?

I am going to look it up but getting info from a direct source is sometimes more informative.

Ann, I'm on Altace and have been for quite some time. I noticed a positive difference in how I felt shortly after starting it. I so hate adding new drugs but I have to say I'm glad I'm on it. It wasn't that my blood pressure was really high and I was already on moduretic but he changed me to a high dose of Maxzide and Altace and now my pressure stays on the low side which for me is good.

Ann,
My wife has been on Altace for a long time, and she seems to tolerate it well.
It doesn't control her BP by itself however, so she has been on Antenolol also.
This combination has kept her BP in line for a long time.
But now they want her to switch to Coreg, they claim it is a much better beta-blocker. Only time will tell.

thanks to both of you. I did look it up and it said coughing can happen and a few had to give it because of that.

this morning I feel ok and no headache after one capsule last night. That's good - I hate headaches. Better yet, I will be happy to get things back in line again. The Benicar has kept the bp normal for years and the dr and I can't figure out what has caused it to suddenly jump up.

I really appreciate your good news.

Hmmm....the coughing thing is interesting...

My husband has been on Altace for a few years now, he has also had this pesky cough for a few years...I'm not sure if it started at the same time, and we have thought it was some kind of allergy or something, but this makes me wonder. Other than that, he seems to tolerate it well, and it keeps his BP under control.

I've been on Altace for two years and it, along with Toprol XL, does a nice job of keeping my BP pretty low. I do have problems with a cough from time to time, but only when I am in bed at night. I keep a glass of water at my bedside and taking a sip quiets the cough.

I found the side effects on the net and cough was the first side effect listed. It said some who coughed had to give it up and that side effect was the one where the most had to give it up. I had to give up toprol xl because of cough. Wonder why it causes that.

go to the net and type in altace - pick the one that is rx com or something like that with rx in it the listing.
