Well, here we are, roughly a week and a half away from surgery. March 28th is quickly approaching.
Colleen and I had a good visit with the surgeon on Thursday. We sat down with him to review my most recent CT scan and have him walk us through surgical procedures. The size of my aortic aneurysm shocked us. I guess at 5.5 cm it's time to fix it before something bad happens. That wonderful bicuspid aortic valve looked different than it did twenty-seven years ago. Where'd all that calcification come from? I guess it's time to fix that too.
During the course of our conversation, the doc noticed our anxiety levels increase and decided we needed a tour of the ICCU and Step-down Unit. I'm not sure that did much to relieve my terrified state of mind, but it helped later when Colleen and I talked about what we had seen and the information we received.
We'll do a major chunk of the waiting we have left playing golf in Mexico next week. A week of exercise will probably feel pretty good. Thirty-six holes a day should keep my mind busy. When we get back we'll only be a couple of days away from the surgery and one of those days will be spent trying to get everything at work ready for my absence.
Colleen and I agreed that the worse part of all this is the waiting. Once they get me in the hospital and get me on some drugs, I'll probably be just fine.
