It does look like a lot of drugs, even to me. They count that as being seven items, and it is £2.10 per item. There is a three month supply of the thyroid drug, that is one item, then all that warfarin counts as one item.
Sue thats about the same price someone in Australia would pay if they were on a government disability pension or old age pension, AUD $5.50 or £2.50 per item, after 50 perscriptions in a calender year its free. For working people it is AUD $29 and after 50 perscriptions it drops to $5.50. Generics that are less than $29 you just pay what ever the price is. Big pharma hates Australia's PBS because it is good at containing drug costs.
Stories like this remind me how lucky we are compared to our American friends who have to pay premium prices for their essential medications and medical care. My Warfarin costs me $15 for a bottle of 50 pills. If I get any pills that cost more than $30, the balance over $30 is refunded by my medical insurance.
You can be a millionaire here and the cost is the same, if you were an OAP living on nothing but pension then they would be free. Drug subsidies are funded through the Social Security payments.
I did tell the woman that I didn't want them all, I crossed off several items which I didn't need as I have lots, such as 3mg and 1mg warfarin (I take 5mg each day and have loads of the others in the cupboard). I was quite surprised to see such a pile when I opened the package.
