American Health Care

Two patients limp into two different American
Medical clinics with the same complaint.
Both have trouble walking and appear to require
a hip replacement.

The first patient is examined within the hour, is
x-rayed the same day and has a time booked for surgery
the next week.

The second sees the family doctor after waiting a
week for an appointment, then waits eighteen weeks to
see a specialist, then gets an x-ray,which isn't reviewed
for another month and finally has his surgery scheduled
for 6 months from then.

Why the different treatment for the two patients?

The first is a Golden Retriever.....

The second is a Senior Citizen.

Pitiful but true.

Last week my Penelope had a fever so I called the vet. Told them I'd like to bring her in and let them keep her overnight. No prob - took her right in, petted her, examined her, medicated her w/antibiotics, fed her, played w/her when she felt better next morning. I picked her up the next morning and they brought her to the car for me.

Maybe seniors should just go to the vet.

I've read that veterinary schools are now harder to get into than medical schools. Some who don't make it into vet school opt for med school. Next time you see your doctor, ask yourself "Does he/she really want to be treating my dog, instead of me?"

Well, as the owner of a yellow lab/golden retriever and being a senior citizen myself, I must say that that particular breed of dog is much easier to get along with than most of us old codgers. So no wonder they get preferential service

Funny, true and sad!! Never thought of it that way.

Perry, my wife's guide dog/boss/baby/spoiled brat, would love the preference thing. He's so used to being made over and being special.

My mother, the senior citizen in this scenario, won't hardly even be her own advocate much less dealing with this problem. That's where her children come in at.
