Lily/Bina- This may sound odd but when I am sitting in this recliner it creates pressure on my back/ same thing car seat was doing today. But while I was laying on my side in bed things felt slightly better. My shoulders and back have this pressure radiating through them.....I really am having a hard time explaining it....just this uncomfortable almost throbbing feeling that radiaties from right below my ribcage over my chest through my back and up to my shoulders and arms. My arms feel alittle week. Almost like that cramping feeling you get when you have a fever....but I do not have a fever. Robin

Ugh, I feel for you; it sounds worrisome. For a few or several weeks post-op I was on a reduced fluid intake by my doctors orders, because my kidneys didn't work right for the first couple of days after valve replacement, and I had so much fluid. Just a tiny nose sticking out of something that looked like my face; very uncomfortable. While that's different from what you're dealing with, you have my empathy. I hope the night goes well for you and the med works well tomorrow. Keep us posted?

update: Ok had echo and they saw a pocket of fluid behind heart. So they sent me for a CT. But that just showed small pockets and after comparing it to the CT I had in hospital 6 days after surgery they thought it was ok. She thinks it is fluid retention and does not feel the upper abdominal / shoulder pressure is connected to that (????) but she is concerned about the high BP it was 148/98 in office today. So she wants me to start Cardizam LA...of course my pharmacy did not have that in stock so we told dr that and she is going to call in a different version tomorrow morning. I was exhusted after having so many medical things go on and driving for so long both ways that I fell asleep around 6pm and I am back up now(10:40) with all the same aches and pressure, Does not feel good at all. I want to feel like I did last week. I was starting to feel so normal :( Robin
ps. thank you for being here with helpful answers and suggestions
Another wild thought here, that maybe you are having some angina? I've read so many different descriptions of it among different people, and women are often different from men. When I get it, it usually begins in my shoulder blades, a sick and achey, pinched pain for me.

How is your gallbladder? When I had gallbladder attacks, the pain was right between my shoulder blades and radiated around my right side. It was a deep achy pain. It also made me nauseous and I had loss of appetite.

I had my gallbladder removed after my last child was born....but I do remember severe back pain with that.
Ps. I am feeling the same pressure since monday. I started my new medication at noon. I feel ok on it so far. Weight did not change overnight. I was not placed on lasix. Robin

I have had an awful time finding the right combination of drugs to stop my fluid retention since surgery. I will say when my fluid retention gets bad I feel lots of pressure in my stomach and sort of my back and chest it is sort of that whole area. I can't take large doses of lasix but get some but not complete relief from metolazone combined with 40mg of lasix. For some reason more lasix makes me sick. About twelve weeks later we are still working on it.

I hope not to hijack the thread but, Swim Mom, have you ever read anything about PH -- pulmonary hypertension? Have you ever been diagnosed with that? I had been years ago but just thought it was a fancy word for high blood pressure at that time (ignorant of me) and didn't realize it was something entirely different. There is a member here, Nancy, whose late husband struggled with that issue; she's written some helpful information about his experience that maybe you might be able to search for here on the site.

Thank you and yes, it has gotten better my doctor said it was from all the fluid I was retaining and it did mostly go away when I was able to get my fluid under control...
