I have a question that I've had on my mind lately. I know we have to be weary about taking Coumadin and the potential for a blood clot to form on the valve if the blood is not thinned out enough. My question is, how do you know that a clot has formed? What would the symptoms be? Im just curious?

You most likely wouldn't have any symptoms until it broke free of the valve or gummed it up. An echo can tell the story of whether there is one forming or not.

Alicia,

I was out of my 1st AVR just 11 days when I developed blood clot underneath the valve. (Read my story for details) I had no idea until they did a cath. They told me that same afternoon. But I was feeling very poorly that morning when I awoke, and that went from bad to worse. We didn't want to take chances so went back to the ER where they admitted me at once. Next morning I was back in the operating table. I was so lucky that day...
