Another St. Jude’s valve to report: mine is 35 years old! Great to hear from others
It is really comforting to hear of these long term successes of old mechanical valves. When I joined this Forum in 2007 (shortly after I got my first computer) my valve was 40 years old and I had the feeling that I was an "outlier", having lived so long on only one valve. With all the stories, like yours, I now realize that the long life, without redoes, of mechanical valves is FACT, not wishful thinking. In a month I will be 89 and on a typical downhill health slide....and I accept that, but as my Cardio tells me the valve will probably still be functioning when my time comes.

Thank you YogiSue, as well as all the other "long timers" on this Forum for sharing your stories and advice.

Welcome! In a few months, it will be 43 years since my first mitral valve replacement. I was 2 years old. Had a re-replacement in '93 with a St Judes which is now 31 years old. Great to see so many long timers here!
An anniversary well worth celebrating! Congratulations and best wishes for many more!
