Paul,

I appreciate your flexibility, but with 3 on board for VT 5/28, if you can find 2 more, then I say go for it. I'm tickled to see the response.

Once the VT team is settled, we can look for another opportunity. These things are everywhere!

I'm in and submit my name I can be there! MSWICK: My only regret is that the P.A. didn't say yes! I guess looking like Mrs. Puff (from Spongebob Squarepants) following time on the heart lung by-pass did nothing for my timeless good looks! You must tell me your story!

Count me in. I just want people to know that I had my surgery in 1990, so I'm a little rusty so to speak. My next appointment is in March. I have a 5K race tomorrow (Sunday Jan 8th) and I'll 5k races in Feb and March ( I have 2 in March) as well.

I plan on running a 10 miler on April 1st and another the 1st sunday in May. I run these races regardless of the out come of the relay. I know that most of you have just had surgery or had it in the last 2 or 3 years.

I'm 29 ( I turn 30 on Feb 25th ), but I don't have the heart of a 30yr old. I want so very much to run a marathon. I will run one some day. But right now I do what I can, the best that I can. My heart might be weak, but I have no control of that. I will run the best I can I can promise that.

Let me know if it 's a go.

Hey everbody - I spoke with Paul yesterday and we find out on 2/6 whether our bid for a 5 person team will be accepted. With Laura, Christine, Paul and me, we still need one more! If this falls through, here's another opportunity - Sat., 9/30 in Akron Ohio (my neck of the woods). But as Tom says - these things are everywhere. Laura - doing my first long run of the year tomorrow -7 miles and I will run it deliberately slow (11:00 min. miles). I am very encouraged by increased stamina this week - it's interesting how each month we get stronger and stronger! http://www.akronmarathon.org/

I can't believe I'm doing this...but I'm in IF you'll take a REAL slow poke

If you guys want someone who can put in a respectable time, then no harm no foul, no problem. But if you truly don't care what my pace is, I'm IN. Let me know!

I think we have our team - Paul is going to update us all soon! Mark

Cool!!

Cool!!

We are already up to 5! Cool! I am so exceited i went to the Y and ran way to far last night.

So, we have 5 people tentative for VT, and Mark has posted a link to the Akron race in September either as a fall back or our primary event if 10 people are interested in running near Mark's home.

I am still curious to know how many people are interested in doing a Marathon Relay, even if VT or even 2006 is not possible.

So to recap the situation with VT:
I am submitting a bid for a relay entry. The bids are chosen at random and will be anounced on Feb 6th at 9:00. I will contact the four of you who have said you are in with some more infomation and ideas. You can review the web site too. Note that the first leg is short and could go to Mitralman if you are really concerned about the length.

Again, i am very excited to meet some of you and do a run together! Cross your fingers that we get in. I will also talk to the promotor who is a friend of a friend to see if they have special spots for special teams like ours, especially if we try to do some type of PR work. I doubt it though.

Paul, I'll take it!

I'll be happy enough just to get up the gumption to go!

We can help with motivation! If I can somehow give you 20% of what i am feeling you will be here early!

I would be interested in this too. My longterm vision is that we actually form a group affiliated with this site and perhaps the Adult Congenital Heart Association where people of all types of athletic ability and ACHD can meet and support each other and raise money/visibility for our cause. I forsee some ability to talk this through over the next six months as we meet in Indianpolis for the Indy half marathon and now potentially in Vermont. Small steps lead to big change and there is so much to do in a positive way to help all of us lead the most productive lives possible despite our conditions!

Keep me on the roster. How far is Akron from the Cleveland Clinic?

Tom - Akron is about 40 min. from Cleveland - about 45 min. from the Clinic. Mark

Getting early to Vermont? I like it!

This is JUST what I need to accelerate my weight loss!

Hey Guys

Sounds like it could be a go. I'm running many races here at home no-matter what happens. I want to do the philly broadstreet run in May and that's 10 miles. So keep me posted.

Happy trails

If you are still looking for people...I would love to join the "Nine Inch Scar" team. I started running again seven months ago (2yr anniversary of my rebuilt engine)

Stay in touch - we may need an alternate for the May 2005 event and there will certainly be opportunities down the road beside this. Please follow the thread. Mark

Started training for the relay this week.

Started training for the relay this week.

Using Polar's Running Coach to do a month of simple acclimation before I key in a new program specifically for the relay.

For the record, I didn't go above 4.5mph today, but still managed to get my HR up to 130.

On the other hand, I felt totally fine -- I'm just doing it by the book, slow and easy to start.

Also for the record, I'm starting at a weight of 194, down from my 211 the day I got home from recovery. Target weight for May 28 is 175.

Finally, for the record, my target pace is 12:00. I know how slow that is, but it's faster than what I'm doing now!

How else am I going to achieve these goals without publicly, loudly humliating myself into it?? :)
