Here is a pic of my scar on Tuesday (12 days). I am so thankful it is low (I actually owe that thanks to this forum too, because I believe it was Andy that said ask the surgeon about it the morning of surgery) I am doing pretty well actually. I did have a little scare last thursday. I seem to have a collection of fluid and blood behind my incision and it presses on my throat causing air bubbles and such when I swallow. On thursday it went a little out of control after dinner and air pockets kept coming up. I also felt like I was going to throw up and I was coughing.....all a very bad situation. We called the surgeons office and they gave us the choice of going to a local ER or waiting it out and see if I may feel better. Well waiting was not going to work. SO we went to the local ER... They gave me morphine and ran some tests then discovered the fluid and my white blood cell count was alittle high so they transported me to Fairfax Hospital. I ended up staying till Saturday but there was no infection and I started feeling much better by Friday night. Since that little incident I have been getting better everyday. Did fireworks with my family, went to the store once and basically getting up everyday, showering, getting dressed and trying to have a normal day.
Sleeping is getting better also. I am able to get myself out of bed alone (huge accomplishment), sleep on side for an hour or so and able to turn slowly while in bed to get comfortable. I think I sleep 2 to 3 hours at a time then move. Not great but better
Pain meds are better now too. Since my visit to the hospital I have been doing Vicodin every 4 hours. I have been able to stretch this out to 5-8 hours during the day. And i am not waking myself up every 4 hours at night any longer to take the meds. My pain is there but tolerable as long as I do not try to do to much.
I must say to everyone who is awaiting surgery.....you are experiencing the worst part right now....waiting. I am so glad this is behind me and I am on the road to recovery.
